The Voice (UK)
So, this afternoon I've been tidying the house, and I decided to have something on in the background. And, being curious, I thought I'd put on 'The Voice', just to see what it's like. And... I kinda love it?
It was the very beginning that really did it. The four coaches (Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue) were all on stage, performing 'I Gotta Feeling'. And it sounds really stupid (because it's not like it's not been mentioned in all the publicity/adverts), but it just struck me that they're all coming at it from the inside. They're all singers themselves, not producers/celebrities/actors/whatever, and not asking the people who audition to do anything they haven't done themselves. And yes, that makes a difference.
Then, there's also the fact that clearly those who audition have been carefully screened beforehand. There are no deluded idiots for us to laugh or sneer at. It takes people seriously.
Mostly though - and this is why you should watch it - it's just so much FUN. The coaches have a fabulous rapport. And if a singer has been chosen by more than one of them, they fight like mad to get the auditionee (totally a word) on THEIR team, and it's hysterical. Especially because Will.i.am and Tom Jones name drop LIKE CRAZY. ('So, I was recording this thing with Michael Jackson...'/'So, there was this time I went to see Elvis...') They could market it as comedy, I swear.
Although to be fair, it's got Tom Jones (Sir Tom Jones, sorry), and that's really all the reason you need... But just in case, here's Samuel Buttery. Because he's ADORABLE! And his name is BUTTERY. <3

Icon is Who changeover-related ;-)
just jumping in here; I have no idea what The Voice is, but I send you a link to a fantastic film via e-mail ~
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rm420/Caramel/ ~ earlier, as I did not even realise it had been on the TV; or that it was one that was available to download to the iPlayer.
Anyhoo; beautiful; thoughtful; gently feminist (in arabic & French), film which I saw five times in the cinema; own the DVD (twice), and will watch via the iPlayer as many times in the 30 days as I possibly can.
Please watch, if you can, though it is available to downlaod for another ten hours :-)
Watched Pompeii ep earlier today, via iPlayer, and loved Donna Noble in it; but thought Doctor way too messianic for my liking; especially the Michelaneglo Cistine Chapel moment.
Liked the story though; very like Doctor's dilemma in Genesis of the Daleks.
Hope you're having a good weekend.
Goddess be with you and yours,
Ray.

Yes, I got your email. Life's just... Stupidly busy. Was saving it for later. :) Will see what I can do about watching it, my compute is horribly slow, I'm afraid, but if I can find the time I'll have a go. (Another ten hours, you say - it might take me that long to download. *g*)

Ah well, it was the Rusty era. He liked to make the Doctor God like (because then he could tear him down). It was a case of RL issues bleeding into the writing. But everything's OK now. ;) Mind you, I love that episode too. And Donna is always fabulous! <3
Hope you're having a good weekend.
I am yes. Hope you're doing well too! *hugs*

However, now that the format's come to the BBC...I have to agree, it's an amazing show. Finally, something to stay in for on Saturday night!

I can understand that. Although it depends on the show? There's stuff where the adbreaks don't matter much (CSI, comedy shows), but for more involved things adbreaks are AWFUL. Am happy that the BBC picked up The Voice, because I probably wouldn't be watching otherwise either....
