Tired thoughts.
From Neil Gaiman:
~~~
Read that the other day and oh, isn't it just perfect? <3
March Madness has started again and it's this odd thing on the very edge of my vision. Life is so busy that I can't even begin to contemplate caring about it. (And oh, I adored last year...) Although if you are desperate to get more votes for your darlings, I'll oblige. I have no affiliations apart from the Doctor and River (and Spike & Buffy, natch).
I keep meaning to write posts (about Lent and... other things which escape my mind right now), but I just never have the time/energy, as whenever I *do* have time I try to work on my fic (posted Chapter 7 yesterday). Reckon there'll be 3 more chapters (+ an epilogue). Why do I do this to myself? Well, I do it because I can't not write it... It's nibbling at the back of my mind wherever I am.
Anyway, must go. So much to do... This was a very random post.
Some thoughts on writing, and driving in fog, and the usual
It's a weird thing, writing.
Sometimes you can look out across what you're writing, and it's like looking out over a landscape on a glorious, clear summer's day. You can see every leaf on every tree, and hear the birdsong, and you know where you'll be going on your walk.
And that's wonderful.
Sometimes it's like driving through fog. You can't really see where you're going. You have just enough of the road in front of you to know that you're probably still on the road, and if you drive slowly and keep your headlamps lowered you'll still get where you were going.
And that's hard while you're doing it, but satisfying at the end of a day like that, where you look down and you got 1500 words that didn't exist in that order down on paper, half of what you'd get on a good day, and you drove slowly, but you drove.
And sometimes you come out of the fog into clarity, and you can see just what you're doing and where you're going, and you couldn't see or know any of that five minutes before.
And that's magic.
I'm home for the afternoon; think I'll get caught up on your fic. I started it and really enjoyed the first chapter or two!
I really ought to read something of his...
Aw, thank you. I'm having immense fun with it (which is one reason it's eating my brain). And also, I think my 'Immortal' muse might have returned. I have an actual - NEW - idea! ETA: When I say 'new', I mean, a better way of approaching the end. Not NEW new... Anyway, hope you enjoy your afternoon. <3
I'm already side-eying half of the people in fandom who are claiming that Eleven is the biggest douchebag in the universe because he's written by Steven Moffat.
no subject
*is too sleep to even form response*
Eleven is The Nicest Man In The Universe. Last Year's March Madness proved this.
(Having just watched some S3, Ten might actually qualify as biggest douchebag. But that's a different subject.)
no subject
I'm going to be putting together a civil-sounding, AND comprehensive list on why Eleven might be a jackass sometimes, but Ten is definitely not a guy who is made of sunshine (no matter how much some Ten fans want to think that way).
JFIODSAFS Series 3. That series alone gives me many not-nice feelings about Ten.
I'm still kinda sitting on my hands as to whether I should do the Ten thing because I don't want to deal with arguments from angry Ten fans.
ETA: Just to be a little tongue-in-cheek: It's interesting how the specific fan groups reflect the showrunner. RTD's outlook is pretty bleak (Midnight is the episode that closest reflects how he thinks humans behave), whereas Moffat is of course far more positive...
I think - and oh, this ties in with about a million thoughts I've had recently - that it's something to do with RTD just not 'getting' the Doctor on a very fundamental level (as well as being very caught up in his own issues), and also tying in with the whole man!pain thing which is such a staple that I'm sure lots don't notice it. So because Eleven doesn't ANGST all over everything, clearly he doesn't feel as upset as Ten did. (Whereas of course Ten was a) depressed and b) magnificently self-centered because of a.) Eleven is more contained, more adult and more Doctor-y. (Have you watched Seven? Eleven is SO MUCH LIKE SEVEN. ♥ ♥ ♥)
On final (VERY CHEEKY) thought: If people can't understand children's TV, then maybe they should just leave it to the 8 year olds.
Nope, not yet. I'm still waaaaay back with One and Marco Polo.
I think
Seven, actually, is terrible from a Ten POV, because Ten is just this giant anomaly. All the other Doctors (and I've seen the odd episode here and there), all fit and all go together, but Ten is just this ridiculous outlier. It's not that I can't see how Ten and Eleven join up (I can, and have often done so). It's when I go back to Seven I can't make Ten fit AT ALL.
Which is why I just go 'Oh I love them all, and Ten was just Ten and there's nothing to be done about it. And he sure was pretty.' But oh, Seven. Seven is MY DARLING.
ETA: I've not seen Two yet. I have it on good authority that he's The bees Knees of Doctors.
no subject
But oh, Seven. Seven is MY DARLING
Sounds like me with Nine. I mean, Eleven was my first Doctor, is still my top favorite, and god knows I love him- but NINE. <3 <3 <3
Ten was just Ten
Maybe one of the reasons was that that he was most 'human' version? Out of all the Doctors I've seen so far- he actually sticks out to me for the fact that it just didn't seem like he had that much oddness to him, aside from him being a Timelord.
Heh- considering that Matt Smith has fanboy'd about Patrick Troughton- I'd take that as a good sign. xD
Oh yes, Eleven is My Doctor. But oh, Seven. He's just such an unlikely hero... And such a BAMF at the same time.
Totally.
Yup, that's my take as well. :)
I'm kinda digging the "Team Not Moffat" icons, though. They're just cute *g*
Hopefully some will see my reply that brings up the fact that Eleven is full to the brim with self-loathing even though he runs around fezzes and bowties. :/
I don't see how I could do that other than going "ELEVEN PRETTY MUCH LOATHES HIMSELF AND NEEDS RIVER TO VERBALLY SMACK SOME SENSE INTO HIM THAT MILLIONS OF PEOPLE LOVE HIM!" with lots of gifs of Eleven crying and tearing up.
So far- one person's responded to me with "Well, Matt's also said that Eleven's also an intergalactic playboy- so he's still the douchiest."
I'm just going to settle for staring at my laptop for a few minutes. :/
"That's what interests me about The Doctor because, actually, look at the blood on the man's hands... Which is why I think he has to make silly jokes and wear a fez. Because if he didn't, he'd hang himself."
Matt Smith
The only response so far has been this one conversation I had with someone about Matt talking about how the Doctor wants to go around the universe with a pretty girl on his arm, and flirt without having to deal with the rubbish. :/
no subject
“However scary it gets, however frightening, however tense, you know the Doctor will save the day, will triumph, and will do it in a good and kind and brave way.”
Steven Moffat
I especially love his vid, because it's the actual people MAKING the show who made it, y'know?
Well if they don't like the Doctor, then maybe they should go find another show to watch. He's not changed [much] in 50 years, except he's gotten progressively less overbearing and superior.
Oh, and this post of quotes might come in handy? Here's a brilliant one (from before he took over):
"Actually, that's not fair. Most fans are delighted with just about all of Doctor Who: really, they are. But mixed in with that are some insanely vocal ones who go on about how they hated it every single week. Which raises the question, "Why are you fucking watching it then?" Many of those guys used to support my episodes, but they already think I'll fuck it up completely now."
Steven Moffat
And those are some brilliant quotes, but like I said to
Which actually- I really don't issue with a lot of a that. If they want to hate Eleven- that's cool. I'm just irritated at a lot of their pointing out ignores that Eleven feels terrible for most of happens, and it just feels like they're pointing out all the bad things while ignoring some of the issues that have to also be examined when talking about those parts in the series.
By this point- Eleven looks like he's doing a bit better in the polls, but most likely won't be able to get ahead of Donna. And I've already voted for Amy so I might start campaigning for her, since Donna's already won the contest before. >>
ETA: That link apparently goes to the main page 3- you have to scroll down a bit, but the response isn't that hard to spot.
I started out on fandom as a Spike fan. This is NOTHING. (OK, not nothing. But - when the haters claim that any good deed your character does is for the sole sake of getting into the heroine's pants - when said heroine is six foot under, and has been for months - you just give up on rational discourse. Like Moffat said: Haters are bananas.
And I'm almost grateful that I don't have the time...
On the other hand, it's fandom, not the government, so if you feel like sending a vote Loki's way (The Avengers), I'd be much obliged.
LOL. Well it's all very chaotic early on... It gets fun when the campaigning settles down a bit more. :)
Will do. :)
To be honest, it's the anti-character threads that have be a bit leery.
Thanks for the vote! Here's your complimentary Hiddles.
And oh, I'm always happy to vote for a Trickster. ;)
