Fans. <3

Who is the greatest troll of them all? MOFFAT IS! *profound love* (Sort of Sherlock/Doctor Who crossover. Zero spoilers.)

(I think this is THE great divider between Joss/RTD and Moffat - the former love to lull people into a false sense of security and then STAB THEM IN THE BACK, whereas the Moff makes everything IMPOSSIBLE, and then solves it in the most ridiculous (but perfectly logical) manner possible, whilst clearly laughing his head off.)

And speaking of, well, fannishness, then you should all go read [livejournal.com profile] shadowkat67's post:

Being a Buffy Fan on the Internet - 1998-2012.

Lots of good thoughts about the evolution of Buffy fandom, and how things have changed, inspired by Mark Watches, and how he might be watching the same show, but he's not on the same journey that fandom was on back then. (I had a lot of thoughts - see the comments.)

I posted about the Sherlock/Doctor Who thing a week ago on my LJ here, but I don't think anyone noticed. ;)

That was a fantastic post by [livejournal.com profile] shadowkat67. Made me feel all nostalgic. :)

I know how easy it is to miss posts (especially on a weekend!), so don't worry about it. :)

I most certainly have. :D

Ha! I remember praying and fretting over whether UPN would let me watch Voyager each week : ) It was awful--easily the most unreliable station, and you'd look up the weather forecast and pray for clear skies and curse the static and when the sports games ran into overtime . . .

And I never had enough tapes to keep everything I wanted; every week was an agonizing decision about what would have to get recorded over.

Also I have lovely nostalgic memories about downloading fic on the family computer with the dial-up modem and then saving it onto floppy disks to read on the ancient, creaking computer that had wound up in my room through some miracle, lol.

Thanks for the link to shadowkat67. She mentioned so many things I'd completely forgotten about like Spoilerslayer that it was a real nostalgia fest reading it. How quickly fandom and fannish interaction changes!

Suddenly all those fanfic writers who wrote Doctor Who/ Sherlock crossovers are sitting there going 'OMGWTF? We're canon now?' I have found that I enjoy more of the 'Moffat-type' philosophy more and more. I don't mind things being impossible, but I don't want them to end that way. I think the ultimate message of hope is much more entertaining than the idea that we are all alone. I don't know if this is because of the fact that I'm getting older or something else, and I suck at meta too much to analyze it.

I also like that Moffat doesn't think that marriage ends a story. The way that Joss and a lot of the lesser writers do.

Yes, and this is why, for all his faults and I'm not completely blind to them, I love him. *nods*
