*ahem* I mean, thanks for sharing the trailer! You just made my day :) My dad and I read the Hobbit together as a bedtime story when I was a kid. Such great memories of this story!
And I was never fannish re LotR, but I've loved the books since forever, and I have the *best* memories of going to the cinema every Christmas for a new installment... And then buying the Extra Long Uncut version next year. ♥
I never read the books til after I'd seen the first movie and even then had mixed feelings about them. The thing I really loved about the movies was the staggering detail they put into the world (which, I realize, is an extension of the amount of detail Tolkien did). I am a real sucker for world-building, and didn't really fall for the movies til I got my hands on the director's cuts, with all their extras, and was able to hear, say, the costume people talking about the symbolism of the embroidery they stitched into the inner lining of some elf's cloak . . . You just have to respect that kind of commitment.
The movies came out here each year just in time for finals week in college. My friends and I went to see each new one on "study day"--the day off between the last day of classes and the first exams. Used, allegedly, for studying ; )

LotR was never particularly my thing, but they really did do a lovely job with the movies and OoooOOooOo . . .
