Birthday post.

The birthday started Friday night. As some of you might remember, my younger sister in law shares my birthday, so we had a sort of 'joint party' Friday night at the in-laws'. Lots of neighbours and friends (although most of these were Beth's). Very nice and I got to wear my new dress, that Darcy bought me as a 'baby-present'.

Saturday started with a few presents. [livejournal.com profile] lillianmorgan had sent me a Spike calender (Squeeeeee! I've never had one before!) and Darcy had got me the most adorable little mp3 player (red! So pretty.) and last weekend I spent my parents' birthday money on a very nice pair of shoes.
After a yummy breakfast we went to town, looking in shops and getting a few things and having lunch in one of the cafés. Then went round to parents-in-law (again) - mostly to say hello to elder s-i-l who'd arrived late the night before and really wanted to see her new niece. (She lives in Scotland I should probably point out...). And m-i-l gave me some gift vouchers! :) Which I have yet to spend. Mmmm, shopping!
When we got back home we had some relative peace - I looked through my flist while Darcy watched something on tv with the kids. Then we had a very quick dinner before setting off yet again. Took the children back to grandparents (I left my baby! Wah!) before setting off to the cinema. Very awkwardly the local cineworld had stopped showing Serenity, but we found another place, about half an hours drive away (nothing that trivial was likely to stop me!). I wore my chinese dress again (Darcy very rightly pointed out that it was very much in keeping with the film. Not that he had other motives. Oh no!) and felt v. pretty if a bit cold. Anyway, enjoyed the film very much, but will save my impressions for another post.
The children had been very good - even the baby - so that was a relief. Although not as much of a relief as 3 hours ALL TO OURSELVES! I love my children, but it does get very tireing to have someone there all the time.

Sunday morning I got a lot of housework/tidying done (incredible how stuff gets messy when I don't care for a few days...) before church and afterwards my friend C. came to visit again (She came in the summer if you recall - we grew up together in the Faroes and now she has a boyfriend from West Yorkshire! Really a very odd co-incidence.). We had a nice lunch and talked loads and loads, before we went to town since there was a Fair (it's half term this week, which as usual means that a Fairground arrived!). The children had lots of fun and so did we, before it was time to walk down to the train station. Can't remember much from Sunday night except that Darcy and I watched the first hour of 'Return of the King'... for some reason the lighting of the beacons makes me tear up. It's a fabulous scene.

That's all I think. That was probably extremely boring for anyone who isn't me, but there is a sad lack of giant killer robots or similar exciting things in my life.

Finally I thought I'd include a baby picture. I'll do a proper pic-spam at some point, but that'll be f-locked, so I just wanted to show off my gorgeous baby to the world! ;)

Oh, she's so cute! She's got a little cupid's bow mouth! What a sweetheart!

It sounds like a lovely birthday, though all that running around must have been pretty tiring. But worth it, in the service of Serenity! :)

She's lovely!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time on the weekend.

She's gorgeous. Sounds like a good birthday weekend, particularly with shopping and Serenity, and time without the children is precious, no matter how much you love them.

I don't think anyone who's never had children can appreciate the utter bliss of just an hour or two without them. Any longer than that and it feels just wrong, of course, because one's own children are wonderful and necessary - but oh the chance to be child-free for a moment.

Now mine are old enough to have their own lives and there are times when we have the house entirely to ourselves, which feels just weird. But I remember so well the sheer guilty enjoyment of a few hours without the lights of our lives!

That baby is just gorgeous. Of course they always are, but this one is extra-specially beautiful.

there is a sad lack of giant killer robots or similar exciting things in my life.

I hate to break it to you, but my life is similarly bereft. The only excitement I've had for days is one I could well do without.

She's adorable! :)

It sounds like you had a good weekend.

*hugs*

especially considering that I have them for a whole week now...

Yes, me too, except that I have Friday and Saturday off to go see James in London. Still, days of cake making, halloween cookie baking and pumpkin carving to look forward to. They are currently making things with playdoh in the kitchen, playing nicely together for a few minutes at least.

Ohhh...she's adorable. Glad you had such a good weekend and I *love* your dress.

for some reason the lighting of the beacons makes me tear up.

Me too. It gets me every time.

there is a sad lack of giant killer robots or similar exciting things in my life.

I think that's probably a good thing *g*.

Squee! It's nice to have my own views confirmed! :)

Consider them very thoroughly confirmed!

I don't think I know anyone with really exciting, jet-setting lives. Which is why I suppose we all watch Buffy...

Again and again.

No. We all watch Buffy for the wit, the clever plots, the serious messages. And the incredibly hot James And the high quality of the acting.

She's absolutely beautiful - she looks so peaceful and thoughtful too. but I imagine that's just that one moment in time ;)
I'm so glad you had a great weekend. And that you've got a Spike filled year ahead ;)
There was actually a BtVS alternative calendar that vied for the present-status but there wasn't enough Spike in it!

I have Friday and Saturday off to go see James in London

We'll be visiting friends in Yorkshire then. So I will be distracted from my violent envy. Just a little.

But please can we have lotsandlotsandlots of detailed description afterwards?

I saw him in the Q&A he did at Milton Keynes last May, and got an autograph, but am really looking forward to the concert and theatre performance. Plus the 'me' time without family.

You have my sympathy on the tidying up front. Several weeks ago I gave Bethan an ultimatum which was ignored, and thus resulted in everything from the floor of her bedroom being relocated to the garage in a bin liner. As she hasn't missed any of the contents and the floor is now as crowded as ever, this tactic should result in a totally empty bedroom before long. :)

Aw, such a shame, especially as [livejournal.com profile] keswindhover has just posted this ebay item

But you can certainly have yourlotsandlotsandlots of detailed description afterwards, as long as I'm not in too much of a James-fug to remember anything. Perhaps I should take notes. Hopefully I'll get some pics of the St James concert worth posting too.

Such a pretty baby and lots of lovely soft hair. Sounds like an excellent weekend; a new dress, lots to eat and best of all - time alone with the hubby.
BTW, the beacon lighting scene gets me all the time as well. ROTK is such a great movie.
