Well I was spoiled up the wazoo for this one (my own fault), so it felt kinda slow? The fact that my brain is half dead from intensive work related training might also have something to do with it.

Anyway, it's still odd to be so removed from something I once loved to distraction. It's like... watching through a duvet. Emotionally I mean. And the American setting REALLY doesn't help. It's like part of my brain can appreciate all the points RTD is making about death, but the other half is going 'Crikey, there's nothing like a true, good oldfashioned liberal, is there?' - or: 'OH HAI THERE, I SEE THAT DRUG COMPANIES AND RAMPANT CAPITALISM ARE EV0L. THANKS FOR CLEARING THAT UP!'


Anyway, am off to bed. Brain SERIOUSLY not with it at the moment... zzzzzzzz

I totally see what you mean. I don't like this American Torchwood. To be fair I was never a big fan of the show, mostly because of the crappy writing in S1 and 2(but, as you know, I watched it for Owen!) and Barrowman's poor acting skills, but it had a certain "silly charm" and it has lost it through Americanization.

All scenes seem to show a label, it's very predictable and preachy.

I thought the jokes were better in this one. Especially since Jack got to make the one about "impaling". I'm generally happier when there's silliness. I just don't care much about this iteration of the show, alas.

Yeah, it's not *my* show anymore. The show it has become is perfectly watchable, so I'm not complaining, really. Just a little sad for what once was...

I'm still enjoying Miracle Day, perhaps because I am a cheap date, and don't mind when things get anvilicious — even RTD-levels of anvilicious. I think I may have a higher opinion of JB's acting than you do, too, which makes it less painful for me. And there's Eve Myles, who makes everything better for me.

I still miss Owen and Tosh, though. A lot.

Oh I don't dislike it! And I am very fond of RTD (just watch me defend End of Time!), and I adore JB to teeny tiny pieces. And Eve Myles is just love. As is Kai Owen. Really, I'm not disgruntled, it's just not my show anymore, and that makes me a little melancholy.

See, the way you feel about TW is the way I felt about DW all through the current season except for the Neil Gaiman episode, whereas I'm loving TW: MD so far. But then, I did not love TW in the first season and in the second only liked it. It was CoE that made me fall in passion.

Funny isn't it, how different things work for different people? Although if this *wasn't* Torchwood I'd probably like it more, if that makes sense? (See this post.)

I'm just a silly American, but I'm a silly American who grew up LOVING PBS (and most of it was BBC stuffs when I was growing up). So, I refused to watch The Office (US version) and didn't really watch Life On Mars (US version) because they sucked completely compared to the UK versions.

(Don't get me started on the US DW: TVM :S I accept it as canon-ish, but yeah, another US FAIL.}

TW: MD doesn't feel like the epic fail to me that those did, I think because of RTD, Julie Gardner and Murray Gold's involvement. Having those original folks involved I think has kept it at least bearable.

Yes, it's totally different having US as the setting. And the "In this US we call these things this" jokes have already gotten so old, it's not funny and Gwen's line to Ester about "Never leave my side" because she 'translates' was as fake as could be.

HOWEVER, I can forgive it because STARZ is a new market for TW. BBC-A passed on it, so it's not like they have the DW/TW/BBC-types Fanbase to work with. So there's a lot of 'reexplaining' so that those watching it for the first time can appreciate it.

The only think I'm looking for right now is SOME reference that it's a spin-off from DW. I'm not holding my breath, but it would really make my day to see SOME nod. We've had all the nods to S2 and CoE. Just one tiny mention.

IE: When Jack said "It's bigger on the inside." It would've been funnier (to me) to have had Rex say that and Jack to reply, "Happens to me all the time" or something. IDK.

On the whole, I'm enjoying this so much better than DW S5 (Only enjoyed Vincent and the Doctor) or DW S6 (Only enjoyed Doctor's Wife) and DW is on break right now anyway, that it's a-okay to me.

And I'm someone who nearly DIDN'T start watching TW since Owen date-raped two people in the opening sequence of the show. So, yeah....

Sorry if I came across as grumpy - I'm not knocking it. I think it's very good. It's just not my show. (Also see this post.)

As for DW, then if I loved the Moffat era any harder I'd probably break something. So yeah, different strokes and all that...

Oh and yeah, a shout-out to DW would be nice. Something more than 'a distant moon of a distant star' or however the line went.

Ahhhh, That certainly helps! I guess, I see it right now as a cross between TW and 24 (another show I loved - the first few seasons - then the idea was just OLD :P But I like this twist on it)

Oh good. It's really weird, because this hasn't happened in any of my other fandoms (f.ex. I went straight from adoring the Tennant era to falling head over heels for the Matt Smith era). Although considering the way Ianto's death completely and utterly gutted me (yet I will defend RTD's right to kill him off 100%), I'm not entirely surprised.

I've been a Whovian for the past 30-ish years. So, I'm used to new and old and the changes. Though, my 8-year-old self will never quite forgive "Five for killing Four."

Usually I handle DW changes quite well, even learned to like Peri and Six, much to my own chagrin. But, S5-6? Meh. I'd rather watch most of Six's serials again, than those two seasons. And actually? I have - well Trial of a Time Lord, because it's ftw!

Having hardly seen any Old!Who I'm not really biased for the old show, but S5-6 is pretty much hitting every single fannish button I possess. So I draw pink sparkly hearts around it, and am sad for those who don't like it. However I'm sure that in time it'll once more morph into something you like more - that's the lovely thing about a show that regenerates. :)

Well from the preview trailer for ep 4 it seems that they're going to segregate the 'should have been dead' people... So that lovely aspect of humanity which loves Othering will be touched on too. Oh Rusty.

Mind you, it's nicely done. Shiny. Wellwritten. If it didn't happen to be the show that was once mine I'd be v. impressed. (Although it is a little slow... I think the Moff has ruined me.)
