Not here, honest!

Just saw that apparently someone or something called 'Care 2' is sponsoring a petition to show how people think a Buffy movie without Joss is a very bad idea. What cracked me up was this quote:

To credit John Kubicek's (Senior Writer, BuddyTV) statement - "Find me one person who liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer but not Joss, and I'll show you a liar."

Clearly this person has never encountered this thing called 'fandom'...

(Does anyone have a link to that 'Star Wars Fans Hate Star Wars' essay? The only ones I've found are dead. But it struck me as oddly appropriate. *g* Oh and I have no opinion on the possibility of a movie, but I figure it can't be worse/more bizarre than the comics.)

ETA: Oh, and here's a fabulous little sketch (which has nothing to do with Buffy, but it also made me laugh):

Wait, what's Care 2? For a second I thought you meant SMG's CARE and I was sooo confused. Like, why would CARE (erm) care about Joss not doing the Buffy movie?

[identity profile] cindergal.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Why does ANYONE Care? ;-) Seriously, a petition? How about just...don't want the movie.

Also, Joss and I have a love/hate relationship. *g*

That was supposed to be, don't "watch" the movie. Need more coffee.

Care 2 is an open petition site, it's like Doodle for petitions, everyone can start one there.

I found the wording "sponsored" that they used on whedonesque pretty misleading, as if there are any petitions they don't host...

That thing is so over the top, as if there is any Buffy legacy left that the comic has not already trampled on.

Lucky, lucky bastards!
(where's a screencap from Life of Brian when you need one)

All they're doing is getting it more exposure. I suspect there's viral marketing involved. Crafty WB.

How dare that prat call me a liar???? I like Buffy, and I can't stand don't like Joss Whedon! If I only rated him half as high as he and his minions do it would be twice as much as I currently manage...

Or ...they've only been part of the "whedon fandom" as opposed to the "buffy fandom" which aren't quite the same thing. Something whedonesque and Whedon himself have to keep being reminded of on occasion.

Oh Doctor Who fandom is even more splintered. You have Doctor Who fans.
Moffat fans, RTD fans, and well all the other writers who wrote for it. And well Eccleston, Smith and Tennant fans (ie all the actors who played the different versions)

Example: I'm a Moffat fan, okay with RTD...loved RTD's Torchwood, not so crazy about RTD's Who. But I'm a David Tennant fan, Smith is growing on me.
Not really a Doctor Who fan - since no interest in watching Who prior to RTD's run, and no interest in owning any of it (bloody expensive - about three times the amount of the Buffy DVD's in the States).

Buffy's a bit simpler...but it also was only on for 7 years, while Doctor Who has been running on tv off and on for close to 50 yrs.

There is a petition up on Care2? WTF. That place is for like, saving polar bears. Not fan-raging about movies.
