Lovely, lovely Christmas time...
I've probably mentioned this before, but we have an almost three-fold Christmas. Well, two Christmasses, and the girls get three lots of presents...
To explain - since I'm Scandinavian, we have 'our' Christmas, just the five of us, on Christmas Eve, following Nordic traditions more or less. So we have real candles on the tree and all the presents from my side of the family, and the presents from me and Darcy to the girls (and each other) under the tree and open them all in the evening. After which we have our meal (normally in Denmark it's meal, then presents, but my parents decided to swap the order round when I was around 2 or 3, so as to be able to enjoy their meal in peace... *g*). The meal was delicious (Darcy is the cook, since I have zero interest in cooking, and he is much more interested in doing interesting stuff with food), and the presents were all rather well received! :) The older girls got bikes (foldable!), and Miss M got, amongst other things, yet another pile of Diana Wynne Jones books, so she was thrilled as can be! (I am SO HAPPY to get her hooked on all my favourites...). Impish Girl got things like a remote controlled helicopter (nigh on impossible to steer!) and the Eleventh Doctor's sonic screwdriver, which she has already mastered. No really, she does a perfect impression, scanning something with great concentration, and then flicks it open and 'studies the readings' - it's so brilliant it fills me with glee every time she does it. For the Cherub we got a (new) TARDIS playset which is very, very lovely (although a bit tricky to put together). Alas we couldn't get her an Amy, so that'll have to wait for later. She also - I got my parents to get her this - got a Dalek voice changer, and it's rather hilarious. Esp since the next day she got a fairy outfit from her other grandma, and when she lets me I will TOTALLY get a picture of her wearing both. Trust me, you've seen nothing until you've seen a fairy with a Dalek helmet for a head...
I did mention rambliness I think?
Anyway, Christmas morning they get their stockings (full of silly things and a few more sensible gifts) and then after mass we go to Darcy's parents for a proper Christmas dinner. Well, there's presents first! The girls are, not surprisingly, very happy with the Three Piles of Presents! Had a lovely dinner and then a very lazy afternoon, watching Shrek and various other things until Doctor Who came on. (I shall save all my squeeing for a separate post! But! Fish in space!!! \o/) I'm sorta struggling to remember what I was going to say, since I'm all sleepy again. Oh - The Cherub's Christmas dress, that she got her daddy to buy for her earlier in the week... It's red with white spot and just utterly adorable, and I even found some red tights with white spots to go with it! I don't think we got a picture of it, but will see if I can get her to dress up again. Oh and I got a fabulous purple handbag (plus a purple purse!) - amongst other things - so I am v. happy.
But I shall have to go. I think the family must have completed several levels of Mario Galaxy without me sitting in a corner and 'being sociable', yet not caring one whit about what they're doing. *g*
