Death of the Doctor Part 2.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! RTD is the single biggest fanboy in the UNIVERSE! Must re-watch about twenty million times, because it was all made of lovely and awesomeness and it is possible that I am in a kind of sugar-rush! ♥ ♥ ♥

Just brief reactions...

- Eleven said "Come along, Smith" to Sarah Jane and I think I died of joy. \o/ Eleventy I ♥ you SO MUCH! Thank you RTD for paying attention! :D

- Knew there'd be a Doctor/Jo scene, and lo it did not disappoint. (RTD does these like no one else!) Best of all: TEN VISITED ALL HIS OLD COMPANIONS BEFORE HE DIED!!!! IT ARE CANON AND I AM TOO HAPPY TO SPEAK!!!!

- Oh and Sarah Jane asking about Ten, and if he'd been OK, and Eleven just avoiding answering so blatantly that he might as well have shouted 'No he was NOT OK AT ALL!' from the rooftops. Or the alien mountaintops, rather. Oh poor Ten.

- Loved to distraction that the memory theme was carried over from S5. (Esp since I just read a re-watch review of 'Human Nature'/'Family of Blood' which reminded me that John Smith asks 'Am I just a story then?' - or similar - which also makes me happy. I love my themes, I do, I do.)

- Clyde was awesome, as we all knew he'd be, and the backwards shuffle was fabulous in that it gave Clyde the opportunity to asks questions. And what was it? 593 507 regenerations apparently? Absolutely brilliant, since it's a totally flippant answer that no one needs to take seriously, and yet they can use it to disregard the '13' perfectly easily. :)

- And RTD couldn't resist the 'Smith and Jones' line. Bless him. He is so adorably predictable.

- What else? Oooooh yes, Sarah Jane's list of what all the former companions was doing was just icing on the cake. Must go back and re-watch to catch it all since when she began talking I was sort of went into shock - I could literally FEEL RTD's fannish glee. (I can also vividly imagine the RTD/Moffat e-mails: 'Would you mind if I filled in lots of blanks and said what all the old companions are doing now?'/'Not at all! Knock yourself out!') Actually, thinking about it, it's interesting that they wrap up all those stories - that only [older] adult fans will know about - on the children's spin-off. I guess they know that older fans will be watching as a matter of course, and are hoping to entice the younger viewers into discovering Old!Who. Good plan.

ETA: Forgot Jo's comment about how if he took her along he'd probably get in trouble with the Timelords and the way he just... went all still and lied through his teeth and Sarah Jane of course knows, but didn't say anything. Wah. Oh teh angst, I loves it. And then they talked about would they know it if he actually died and he went all serious and 'Oh, the whole universe would feel it' and then made them jump. Eleventy you are made of awesome!

ETA2: I FORGOT! (How could I? But there was so much awesome...) Amy and Rory on a Honeymoon planet - which I'd predicted - except it's a planet on a Honeymoon and I sort of just curled up and died of happiness. Again.

ETA3: Of course the 'travelling with a married couple' made Jo talk about how she'd left because she was getting married, and it all tied in beautifully with Amy's Choice and the Dreamlord pointing out how the Doctor always leaves people behind... And also the Doctor talking about all the things Jo had done and she got all happy and 'Oh you were watching me all along!'... and then he couldn't lie and it was heartbreaking and beautiful.

OH IT WAS ALL BRILLIANT! RUSTY I LUFF YOU!

Also, I NEED ICONS! Does anyone know anywhere? (OK, so it's a bit early, I know. But if you find a good source, will you tell me?)

Right back to the 1963 companions:)

Rusty luff.

So is SJA something where Eleven crosses over for a bit? Hmm, I might have to watch this.

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
SJA is a lot more like Old Skool Who than current DW is IMO. They had a crossover with 10 last season, and this week they have Jo (3's Jo) and 11. It's a kid's show, but it's lots of fun.

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2010-10-26 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The more I hear about this episode, the more desperate I become to get caught up on this show. We get to see Jo!!!! I *love* Jo!

There's a showrunner who manages to give the audience both what the want AND what they need!

Being careful not to read (not seen the eps yet) sonicbiro.co.uk is good for caps. ^^

I feel like such a scrooge. It really didn't do much for me. :-(

Admittedly, for various reasons it was never going to be my favorite thing ever, but I think I had some hope that Matt Smith could give me an "in" to Rusty's writing. Apparently not.

I should just accept I'm never going to love/get RTD the way some do and learn to be happy for the rare occasions where he does manage to grab me :-\

That said, I do plan to watch again and see if I start feeling more charitable. I've since dispatched with some unpleasantness that was hanging over my head when I first watched, so maybe that'll help.

Well you are a very pleasant Scrooge, I must say. :)
Hardly my place to come into somebody else's journal and vent my spleen all over their party.

I'm sort of hard-wired into overlooking plotholes and focussing on the characters stuff. (Notice that my post doesn't touch on a single plot point.)
Alas, I can look over a plot hole with the best of them. It's pretty much everything else that gets to me. *le sigh*

Mostly I want to pet him. *g*
LOL. He does look pet-able. I would pet him for The Writer's Tale. *pet, pet*

Anyway, I hope a second viewing will ameliorate it somewhat. ♥
Slightly better . . . but mostly because, knowing what was going on already, I didn't feel a much need to cringe.

It's interesting actually that you should mention Eleventy as a possible gateway into RTD's writing - I've got a friend who (sadly) does not like Eleven, and I'm kinda hoping that RTD's writing will get her on board with the loveliness that is our current Doctor. *crosses fingers in the face of logic*
See, this is what's actually getting to me: Eleven felt . . . flat. I never had high hopes for the story itself, and that's fine, but I was hoping Eleven was going to make RTD's writing pop a bit. I think it more worked the other way round instead. It's not like he was ruined or something, just . . . flat. Such is life. But here's hoping it works on your friend anyway!

In the meantime, I shall gaze contentedly on your icon, which never fails to make me smile.

Oh dear. Well it's not long until Christmas now...
[livejournal.com profile] owlsie has re-dubbed it "Who-mas," and I'm not inclined to argue.

Oh I'm used to switching off my cringe-button when watching SJA. *pets them all*
It does seem like a very nice children's show. Sadly it does take a bit of mental adjustment to appreciate these things properly.

Thanks! And pretty much nothing can ruin things for me if I've decided I'm going to enjoy them, so I'm rather lucky. :)
That is, indeed, a great asset you've got there. *tries not to be jealous*

He is so cute and utterly unselfconscious. *happy sigh*
*pets Eleventy because he should not be left out*

TEN VISITED EVERYONE. EVERYONE. OH MY GOD THAT IS AWESOME AND NO WONDER THE REGENERATION WAS SO EXPLOSIVE IF HE HELD IT OFF THAT LONG.

The whole memory thing was just so Big Bang callback.... Eleven's really into that sort of thing isn't he? I love him for it though. He really never forgets.

The part where Eleven actually needs Sarah to help him because he has no screwdriver kind of made it really hit home that she's gotten to the level of being pretty much his equal. I dunno, made me happy. Eleven really did not need to skirt around whether he was okay the last time he saw her because skirting around just obviously says "no I was not okay" to just about anyone.

I loved the conversation in the ventilation shaft with Clyde while they were simultaneously shuffling. That was awesome.

Amy and Rory on a HONEYMOOOONNN on a HONEYMOON PLANET NO LESS.

Old companion mentions were LOVE. LOVE.

I adore SJA full stop! I haven't had time to watch this week yet, but looking forward to Jo. Jo makes everything better!

Can you tell I've been watching 3 lately?

[identity profile] kateydidnt.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched the episodes last night--TWICE and there was much squealing and gushing.

Do you think Ten visited Susan before dying? Though my friend says she still thinks that the woman in white was Susan (and I agree, despite what else has been said) and that counts.

And the roster of old companions and what they are doing! SQUEEEEEEE! I foresee much by way of fanfic coming. I can't wait.

[identity profile] chloris67.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds lovely! I was on the fence about watching it since I don't usually watch SJA but a combo of Ten visiting all his old companions and the character moments that you've mentioned and I think I have to find. Also, I am interested in finding out how RTD writes Eleven versus Moffat. (I've long had a wish of the two of them working together on something.)

[identity profile] chloris67.livejournal.com 2010-10-27 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I did see that one! And Ten was completely wonderful in that episode. I've only seen a few others though -- we tried but it wasn't for us.

I mean, not immediately, nowhere near enough time until later this week, but yes.

It was a fabulous episode, no matter what. And that show is never meant to make sense, it's for kids. But Eleven was fantastic, and I'm growing rather fond of Clive, too.

Clyde, sorry, I did know that! I have no idea what I typed 'Clive'... Sleepy, I guess. *Facepalm*
