A little update...

I don't really have anything to say about Hurricane Katrina. It's just too big and my mind can't grasp it. I've been watching the news all week and reading all the sad, angry, worried, helpful posts on my flist and I think everything has been said better than I could. My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims... it's so odd to look out the window and see life continue as it always has. It's sort of the same dis-connected feeling I had after I saw 'Schindler's List'. Something's unreal.

The last week has been very nice, if obviously full of parents! But the weather was nice, and we had a lovely time generally. Took them to the train station this morning, waved goodbye and then waited 15 mins for Darcy's friend C. to arrive. Thankfully C. is the nicest, most undemanding house guest anyone could wish for, but still it means that my lurker-status stays pretty much unchanged.

Anyway, I have a bit of time now, since Darcy and C. took the girls to the cinema to see 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. I chose to stay at home to get some stuff done (house mostly tidy again now) and to catch up a bit with LJ. And maybe to get some writing done... only two chapters left! Oh, and the next one is with my beta and I'll hopefully post early next week.

Don't really have much to tell, except that we had a very nice - and still unexplained - surprise last night. After dinner, Darcy was a bit annoyed because there was nothing for dessert (it being my parent's last evening - he was considering running up the road to the local shop). I said: "But what about that ice cream in the freezer?" He looked at me strangely: "What ice cream?" "On the top shelf." I replied. "Didn't you buy it?" He shook his head and went to look. And sure enough there was some nice ice cream (which I had noticed in the morning because it fell out). Only we don't know where it came from. We didn't buy it. Neither did my parents - or Darcy's (it's the sort of his mother might do, but she denies all knowledge). So there you go - a small miracle in our very humble freezer!

See you all next week!

Okay, I'll admit it. I bought the ice cream. What flavour did I get you?

Heh, maybe it really is a miracle. Maybe next week you'll find lasagna!

As long as it's not a body!!!

When is your due date, anyway? It's got to be soon now.

Sept 22! Wow! And yet you don't post pictures of your tummy. What's up with THAT? Heh.

Yes. I wonder wonder wonder what you can do about that???

Smoochie smooch!

Wow, what a brilliant kind of miracle! Maybe the little misses are showing an extremely precocious altruistic streak? And, er, ability to conduct commercial transactions? Hmm :)

We had the Mystery of the Disappearing Cucumber here lately, which despite the innuendo-laden name was very mundane: I definitely bought a cucumber, but after we unpacked it was nowhere to be found. I am dreading the possibility that we'll eventually find it when a distinctive smell of rotting cucumber is pinpointed somewhere in the house... shudder...

Glad you had a good time this week, and I hope you aren't getting too worn out.

It's nice to have visitors, and even nicer when they leave.....

Just make sure you rest enough, OK?

Good girl. ::pats head approvingly::

Glad life is returning to normal.

As to the miracle....don't discount it. I have a theory that our lives are filled with these "little miracles" we take no note of or fins other explanations for. Actually they aren't really little at all because they speak to the tiniest details of our lives being as important as the big stuff.

Your need for a dessert being addressed before you knew you had the need was/is as important as a weather shift that prevents disaster or a plane landing successfully with no landing gear...in other words YOU matter!

Not so little then! Yeah reminder ice cream from miraculous sources! Yeah the numbers of hairs on your head matter!

Thanks for sharing that reminder with all of us.

Let's not forget that either! Not some uncaring far away diety.....one that knows even the silly stuff and cares. Woo Hoo!

Yay for the nice ice cream :) ::hugs::

I didn't know you had heinzelmanchen in Britain. You know they bring ice cream to good little girls and boys so you must have been especially good lately. Either that or they're working a sideline in supplying ladies in late pregnancy with sweet treats.
Put your feet up now and enjoy the ice cream.

Magic ice cream! What more could you want? The words "ice cream" are magic words around here!

house mostly tidy again now
Actually I'm almost sorry I read your post because this reminded me what it is I should be doing today...

I think you summed it up pretty well about Katrina. I almost wrote a post about it the other day after some comments I read got my blood boiling, but then I decided that emotions are high and it might be best to do some intelligent thinking about the situation instead of knee-jerk reacting.

Somehow I managed to miss a lot of yesterday's FL. You sure the ice-cream didn't have the face of the virgin Mary on it or anything? Could have made your fortune selling it on E-Bay - as long as it didn't melt!! Be too late now anyway, as you ate it!!

Now I want some too. ::snaps fingers:: ::wiggles nose:: ::blinks eyes many times:: Heh.
