Just re-watched 'Forest of the Dead' (watched 'Silence in the Library' last week, but didn't have time for part 2 until today), and Oh My God it is so good. So, so, so, so good, and so clever (*so* many of his S5 themes are there!) and just... wonderful. ♥ ♥ ♥ I love the Moff forever for creating this incredible bridge between eras, and for making it work so beautifully.

The Doctor and Donna BREAK MY HEART too. Seriously, she's my favoritest companion ever. And she rocks SO hard in those episodes.
And I've always liked River. She disconcerts the Doctor, and that's about 12 kinds of awesome.

And watching them, knowing what's to come, the foreshadowing in her virtual life in the Library is... *sniff* (Although also kinda hopeful, you know? She was happy, so believe that she could be happy again.)
And River is fabulous, especially the way she keeps the Doctor on his toes - he really needs that!

That's a really good point, and I hadn't thought of of. Mmmm... neat!
The doctor needs someone around who doesn't let him take himself too seriously. Donna rocks at that, and River does it in her own way. He realizes he doesn't have all the answers, and that somethings she knows he doesn't. It's wonderful to watch!

Donna kicking down the door: first thing I think of when I think of Donna.
The Doctor apologizing to a security camera (and meaning it!): when he's not trying too hard, he really is a sweetie. Even Ten.

Ha. If only. And I don't understand that attitude btw - why on earth would Moffat, the master of meticulous planning, suddenly retcon anything? I'm sure he has the next 5 years planned out in perfect detail. :)

Well RTD never edited him... *loves too* Plus the story-theme (not to mention 'little girl with a whole world in her mind') is just extraordinarily well realised. Perfect S5 episode that arrived too early. :)

"Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed." I'm trying to decide if I actually owe my current propensity to repeat words for emphasis to Moffat in general and to that line in particular. I think I just might.
Also, this just occurred to me: River, the voice of practicality and necessity, of "you have to run" and "that's completely impossible" and "it's never going to work," River, who cares if there's a plan and hates good wizards in fairy tales and steadfastly refuses to buy his hype . . . that same woman at the end of the day had this to say about the Doctor: that the skies would go black if he ever gave up and that some days are blessed because the Doctor came to call and everybody lived. :-)

Teehee. I have also noticed that. I love in "Flesh and Stone" when the Doctor is all "a forest in a bottle on a spaceship in a maze--have I impressed you yet, Amy Pond?" and River's all leaning back against the console watching them with this big grin on her face because, let's face it, he really is delightful sometimes.
Then sometimes I think she's just listening very carefully to everything he says to make sure he's not making mistakes, which he does desperately need.
