*deeeep sigh*

Just re-watched 'Forest of the Dead' (watched 'Silence in the Library' last week, but didn't have time for part 2 until today), and Oh My God it is so good. So, so, so, so good, and so clever (*so* many of his S5 themes are there!) and just... wonderful. ♥ ♥ ♥ I love the Moff forever for creating this incredible bridge between eras, and for making it work so beautifully.

*sniff*

(The Doctor and Donna BREAK MY HEART!)

ETA: A lot of S5 spoilers in the comments now btw.

I loved so much Silence in the library and Forest of the Dead. And River Song !Episodes brilliantly done and so powerful.

Donna!

The Doctor and Donna BREAK MY HEART too. Seriously, she's my favoritest companion ever. And she rocks SO hard in those episodes.

And I've always liked River. She disconcerts the Doctor, and that's about 12 kinds of awesome.

Did he know at that time that he'd be running S5, do you know?

That makes me love those episodes even more.

(Although also kinda hopeful, you know? She was happy, so believe that she could be happy again.)

That's a really good point, and I hadn't thought of of. Mmmm... neat!

The doctor needs someone around who doesn't let him take himself too seriously. Donna rocks at that, and River does it in her own way. He realizes he doesn't have all the answers, and that somethings she knows he doesn't. It's wonderful to watch!

I loved the RTD era...but now I feel it's hard to go back. Moffat just puts everything together so well, and things are silly without being corny (do you say corny in England?) and dramatic without being angsty. *loves*

Corny is fun sometimes, and it's nice to have both to choose from, but I am a sucker for magical.

*sigh* I still can't listen to River's voice-over at the end without getting seriously choked up. I was debating River's possible future/past over on GB once and actually had to mount a lengthy defense of why Moffat would consider that scene as sacrosanct and not to be overturned by, say, making her a massive con artist all along. WTF, people? If you can't see why Moffat would never dream of violating that scene . . . IDK. It's not like I can forbid people to watch a television show, but can I at least force them to keep their grubby hands off it?

Donna kicking down the door: first thing I think of when I think of Donna.

The Doctor apologizing to a security camera (and meaning it!): when he's not trying too hard, he really is a sweetie. Even Ten.

"Dear god, you're hard work young!": THANK YOU, RIVER! SOMEBODY HAD TO SAY IT!

For some reason, the Doctor's whole rant about his screwdriver and interference from hairdryers puts a massive grin on my face =D

The audacity of Moffat: daring to put a story about hope and personal growth smack in the middle of RTD's angst fest. It's insanity! How ever did he get away with it?!? *love*

"Some days are so blessed..." I want it on posters.
"Some days are special. Some days are so, so blessed." I'm trying to decide if I actually owe my current propensity to repeat words for emphasis to Moffat in general and to that line in particular. I think I just might.

Also, this just occurred to me: River, the voice of practicality and necessity, of "you have to run" and "that's completely impossible" and "it's never going to work," River, who cares if there's a plan and hates good wizards in fairy tales and steadfastly refuses to buy his hype . . . that same woman at the end of the day had this to say about the Doctor: that the skies would go black if he ever gave up and that some days are blessed because the Doctor came to call and everybody lived. :-)

Plus the story-theme (not to mention 'little girl with a whole world in her mind') is just extraordinarily well realised. Perfect S5 episode that arrived too early. :)
Truth. And CAL is a sort of echo of Amy, isn't she? I hadn't thought of that. Interesting.

I love those episodes very much (DONNA I MISSSS YOOOOUUUUU) but I have issues watching them because the the first time I watched them it was a) the middle of the night and b) I'm scared BATTY by skeletons.... especially skeletons walking in shadows, I don't care how fake they looked, the skeletons made up of creatures that will strip you of your flesh scared the FRAK OUT OF ME. Moffat gave me nightmares that night.

*cough* in any case, what I do love about the episodes are the themes, it's really VERY interesting to see them now that Series 5 has aired. The child with a powerful mind, the fact that everyone's a story, "Everyone Lives" etc. I ADORE River's monologue at the end about the Doctor, and its more meaningful now that we've seen more of her and understand her relationship with the Doctor just a tad better. Part of me wants there to be like some sort of flashback to what happened in the library in the future.

I think that's why they work so well
I think so too :D

and one thing I noticed is that a lot of the time she just stands back and *watches* him. Much like we do, just enjoying his innate Doctor-y-ness. :)
Teehee. I have also noticed that. I love in "Flesh and Stone" when the Doctor is all "a forest in a bottle on a spaceship in a maze--have I impressed you yet, Amy Pond?" and River's all leaning back against the console watching them with this big grin on her face because, let's face it, he really is delightful sometimes.

Then sometimes I think she's just listening very carefully to everything he says to make sure he's not making mistakes, which he does desperately need.

And ALL THE STORY STUFF OMG! The Doctor and Donna start off in Biographies... *flails with happiness*
OMG, nothing to add, but *flails too*
