Being busy.

It's the Cherub's birthday today (She's 5! How did that happen? Although to be honest it feels like more than five years since she arrived...). Anyway, I'm very busy, but I've seen a lot of comics related posts the last few days, and thought about writing my own.

And then I decided against it. Because the thing is: I don't care. My emotional investment is literally zero. Or, to be more specific, my investment in the story is non-existant. (Not that I ever considered them canon, but the comics have literally gone out of their way to make sure that I'm incapable of accepting them as anything except crack-fic. Although, taken as crack-fic, they're pretty awesome, and I'm very happy that others can enjoy them. Plus I still think that the Spuffy-stuff is fun. I always like Spuffy.)

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Any emotions come from my anger/disappointment in the writers. (I could go on at length about this, but I won't. I just hope the whole thing will be resolved with as little fail as possible!)

And now I shall go sort out the house and pretty-fy it with balloons and banners for later. :)

ETA: The Cherub has (obviously) been looking forward to her birthday for a long time, waiting for it to be autumn so it'd arrive. Which led to this declaration yesterday: "And tomorrow it's my birthday and also it's going to be autumn and there'll be conkers EVERYWHERE in the whole world!"

So now you know.

Very Happy Birthday to the Cherub. How can she be 5!

Because the thing is: I don't care.

No, I don't either...and that actually makes me a little sad.

Any emotions come from my anger/disappointment in the writers

Yes, exactly. I'm afraid I shall approach Joss's work in the future with a rather different attitude than I once did, and that's mostly, though not entirely, because of the Buffy comics.

Some day you're going to have to explain to the Cherub about, you know, Australia. But no need to spoil her childhood innocence yet. ;-)

Happy Birthday to the Cherub!

Aw! A happy birthday to the Cherub! I hope she has a great day!

I think your comments on the comics have been a perfect balance of snark and good-natured-ness, for what it's worth. :D

Now I am wondering what conkers are!

[identity profile] penny-lane-42.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I really wouldn't worry! Nothing you have ever said has upset me or seemed unduly harsh. And snark is fun--none of us have made it through the S8 run without snarking!

like I said in the notes to my s8 fic 'It's not *their* fault they're stuck in a silly comic!' ;)

Love it!

Aha! Horse chestnuts! That quote from the Cherub is adorable.

It does. I think I remember you posting about it when the other me was on your f-list. I think. Seems like ages ago.

Any emotions come from my anger/disappointment in the writers.

Yup. The comics are more a reflection of Joss for me than Buffy, Angel and company. It doesn't matter to me if Joss tries to retcon it like everything else. I thought she loved him in the show and the comics won't change my mind on that any more than they make me think Warren is alive, Giles is an idiot and the Universe has sentient thoughts.

happy birthday to Cherub! There really should be conkers everywhere in the whole world (what are conkers?)!

as to the comics issue... going with the metaphor of the day, I love broccoli and hate frosting (seriously), but I had a full and very enjoyable meal, but I am full. All done. and now I, on occasion, feel that calling it canon is like being force-fed "one more spoon if you love Joss". No, thanks.

But I am glad people are enjoying it.

Then we totally have conkers!

and I just came up with the season 9 idea: http://avrelia.livejournal.com/188112.html ;)

I have theory that when they decided make a season 8 comic they figured not enough genuine Buffy fans would buy the comics, so they wrote the series aimed at an imaginary 14 year old boy. And possibly a few obsessed Ducks. I haven't been able to take them seriously since Dawn was a giant. But I am sorry people who do take them seriously seem to be kind of upset at them moment.

Though the steampunk space ship and the bug are kind of ... Neat!

And I refuse to believe that the cherub is 5. Didn't be just have an on-line baby shower for her a few months ago? Or maybe I'm just getting old!

eta for typos...

How did that happen?

Tell me about it! I visited my sister once, when she was living with her @SD:Aeuf of a boyfreind/future husband in Liverpool. They had two children at the time (four by the time he walked out on her) slightly younger than your wee cherub. They went out for the evening while I looked after the wee'uns. When they came home all three of us were asleep on the couch, their heads on either side of my chest.

The eldest is now working in a garage, and doing part-time college course; whilst the younger has been living with his girlfriend for over a year now.

So yeah, tell me about it!

:-)

Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
Ray.

Yay, Cherub! Happy Birthday! I can't believe that mine is going to be 6 soon. I blinked and that was it.

I'm completely out of the comics wank/kerfuffles/whatever. I never thought of them as anything approaching canon so I mostly just shrug and shake my head at them. As for canon Spuffy, I'm not sure why anyone would want that in the first place. I prefer subtext and fanfiction.

Yay! ME TOO. Sadly, we appear to be in the minority...

I'm the kind that lived for half a sentence in a whole episode...

SO DID I. Still do, it turns out. *g*

Argh, Torchwood is on my epic list of Shows To Watch. I've viewed pretty much the pilot so far. But I have heard much about Jack/Ianto and am anticipating to be shipping that. ;)

[identity profile] ever-neutral.livejournal.com 2010-09-25 08:36 am (UTC)(link)
I most definitely have a list. Which I will finish getting through when I am 60.

Yes, I've been warned that S1 is quite dire. I have a pretty high tolerance for that though, so it should be okay. *g*

Also, pretty boys kissing. ♥

Hee, I look forward to it.
