DW 5.08. The Hungry Earth.

Funnily enough, what with posting 4 chapters of fic this week, I didn't have much time for writing this. Not that I had a lot of thoughts, but I wrote down some quotes and stuff. Spoilers will eat you, starting with your bottom...

- Firstly - the Gruffalo. Who will be the mouse, is my question. Guess we'll see soon enough.

- Team Poncho keeps being adorable, and I want the cut scenes now so I can see the Doctor/Amy conversation about Rory. Also the way he (Rory) says "It cost... a lot of money..." just cracks me up. Plus I saw a snippet of Arthur Darvill on breakfast TV, and loved him saying that Rory is enjoying 'running away with the Doctor' too. I ♥ them all!

- Amy: "Have you always been this disgusting?"
Doctor: "No. That's recent."
Love them!

- Something I noticed when Amy was being dragged under - she wants to know what it is. This is such an Amy thing (see Time of Angels) - she wants to counter fear with knowledge, and I think it's wonderful. Also poor, poor Doctor. Plus kudos to Rory for not throwing a tantrum, but being useful and helping (and looking after people, because he's a nurse, but unobtrusively so) and trusting the Doctor. I really like the dynamic.

- "I'm asking nicely - put them away." Mmmmmm, Quietly Scary Doctor, I like you very, very much.

- Doctor: "I was the same where I grew up."
Elliot: "Did you get a way?"
Doctor: "Yeah."
Elliot: "Do you miss it?"
Doctor: "So much."
Just perfect. And also I was reminded of “When I was a little boy, we used to live in a house that was perched halfway up the top of a mountain...” Oh Doctor.

- Doctor: "It doesn't do wood!"
Rory: "That's rubbish!"
Doctor: "Oi! Don't diss the sonic!"
And all I can hear in my head is Donna...

- "Did you just shush me?"
Oh Amy, you're brilliant!

- The Silurian. Now I've read up on them a little, but don't have much to say except I'm looking forward to seeing how things will play out tonight. Also, I love the outfit, it looks very... Old!Skool. (Dunno what else to call it.) And of course there was this:
The Doctor: "I'm the last of my species, and I know how it sits in a heart. So don't insult me."
Oh Eleven. (I'm with calapine - it's *magic* acting!)

- And finally: Nasreen. I adore Meera Syal anyway, but (having seen this ep 3 times by now) I loved watching Nasreen, the way she reacts to the Doctor and then just leaps in. Not just because we're once again shown how the Doctor has unfailing chemistry with older women, but because Nasreen is smart, capable and sees the Doctor as an *opportunity*, rather than a rival. Also she snapped his braces and I squeed! :)

I adore Rory. I think he's my favorite thing about season 5 so far. I was unable to stop myself from reading a spoiler though (Forums! Damn your addictive crack!) so right now I have my fingering in my ears and I'm denying that there is anything wrong...

I don't know the actress who plays Nasreen, but I love the character so far. SHe rocks like a rocking thing. I'd love to see the Doctor take her on as a companion (not that I think that's actually going to happen); that could be a really interesting dynamic.

Gah. I work this whole weekend so I'm not going to have a chance to watch part 2 until probably monday. It just might kill me!

Rory is totally made of win! (Have you read this post btw? V. critical of RTD (too harsh imho), but with a lot of good points re. Rory.)

Meera Syal is Teh Awesome! (You should check out The Kumars at 42, a osrt of sitcom/talkshow... thing. Meera Syal plays the grandma! :)

Hearing Donna... you know.. I have this thing, atleast for 2005 - Doctor regenerations being influenced by their companions in a way.

Nine took in the time vortex from Rose.. and becomes Ten. Ten who is angsty and in love with Rose. When you think of how young Rose is.. he became much LIKE Rose in a way... Rose helped heal Nine in many ways.. so his next regeneration suits her..

Then we have Ten.. who has a regeneration crisis with Donna, yes, it creates the Doctor Donna.. but Donna also heals him from his broken heart over Rose.. by being his friend. Being there for him in that not romantic way (much better than Martha did, poor Doctor stuck with the companion in love with him, when he's still reeling from losing Rose.. I love Martha, but that was a horrible relationship for both of them in a way.. Donna helped him much more than Martha did emotionally.) So this regeneration to Eleven, while not prompted by Donna, well, He seems to have gained some very Donna-ish characteristics, that are slowly coming out.

What do you think? Am I reading too much in maybe?

Ooooh v. interesting. I adore regeneration theories, and this one works rather well, I think.

Haven't really got any deep thoughts, but will definitely mull this over. Thank you! :)
