BtVS/AtS vid recs.

This started out as a short list for joking, and then grew to the point where I thought - OK, I'll just make a proper post. This is not a comprehensive list, and I'm *sure* I've forgotten plenty, but these are the ones that I fell in love with, and kept.

The way I've done it to rec vidders, linking to their sites/tags/whatever, and then pointing out which vids are my personal favourites - hoping that you'll check out all the rest too, since tastes invariably vary! :)


First of all, two vids that aren't online anymore, so I've uploaded them myself:

Memories (rm, 7 MB). I've rec'd this before, but it's still one of the single best Buffy vids ever created. The concept is very simple - Buffy's speech from 'Prophecy Girl', with the music from 'The Gift', with images from all seven seasons. ♥ (Real Media Player can be downloaded for free here.)

AtS S5 vid (wmv, 29 MB). I don't know where I found this vid, but I love it. It traces the events leading up to NFA absolutely beautifully.

Also thought I'd add this vid as well, since I don't know who made it:

Illyria Credits. What if Illyria got her own show? These credits make me with it could have been...

sdwolfpup. Wolfpup Seranade. I need to put SDW at the top (although really, the order is otherwise completely random), because her vid 'Coin-operated Boy' (What kind of boy does Buffy want? Buffy/Riley, Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Spike) was the first vid that showed me what vids could really do - how they could be more than pretty pictures set to music. How they could be deeply layered, insightful, and full of meta. (I swear, every. single. time I watch it, Spike's entrance just... knocks me out.) Also check out all her other vids! I love 'em still. ETA: I had forgotten just how good a Willow character study 'Red Oyster Cult' is...

yhlee. City of Veils. Two vids especially - 'Fighting It' (Angel and his family in all their complexity) and 'Have You Heard?' (AtS. This is my show. And this vid is masterful.)

vrya. Vrya.net. Especially Killer (the parallels between Willow and Warren) and Schism (Spike, trying to make the pieces fit).

charmax. Bronze Ambition. My favourite (so hard to choose!) must be 'Still Breathing' (Spike’s redemption song) and The Wesley ones 'Suicide Note' and 'Why I'm Here' (all three on this page) - and 'Your Woman' (Spike kidnaps Angel to find out why he never loved him. Hysterical.)

sisabet. Masterlist. My favourite is without a doubt 'Peacekeeper' (Buffy. 'Take no prisoners, only kill'.)

sockkpuppet. Slashcity. 'Roseability' might be my favourite Spike/Angel vid ever, and 'Mr Brightside' - well, it's obviously Angel, isn't it?

obsessive24. Obsessive24.net. 'Bachelorette' (In the shape of a girl. My Buffy. Excellent) and 'Cuckoo' (Where Lindsey ends and Angel begins.)

The Quor-Toth. Brilliant, brilliant AtS S5 vids. My favourite is 'Cleansed by Fire'... or maybe 'I'm Not Driving Anymore' or... Basically, if you love S5, you should love these!

dualbunny. Vid tag. Three vids that stand out - 'Tragedy' (Spike + the BeeGees = Pure Win!), Suburbia (Buffy overcomes everything in the end. But what happens before the end? *hugs poor Buffy*) and - of course - Black Black Heart (Spike/duster!!!).

Finally... spikeylover, whose site is gone! *sob* But I saved some of her stuff, and have uploaded Best of Spike (wmv, 22 MB) - Spike's Top 100 moments, and Ghost of a Rose (wmv, 21 MB), my favourite Drusilla vid bar none.

Actually - one more. I don't know where I found it (link anyone?) but this is the only Spike/Buffy/Angel vid I know. Thankfully, it is awesome! Ours (wmv, 25 MB). OT3 oh yeah! :)

Yeah a few years ago I contacted her about one of her video's being off-line (the Spuffy video set to alanis morissette's Doth I protest To Much) she gave me a new link, and I felt awkward to keep bugging her about it, but that link was not working either :/ It's a real shame because she made tons of awesome video's, and I'd love to find them again

Same here. The cuts are so [painfully] clever cuts (all the other real ones that i destroy), and the fact that the Riley Vs. Angel stuff is so excellent - and then Spike comes and just *breaks* my heart, and I want to scoop up poor Buffy and hug her forever.

Right there with you on the flailing. And I love how it shows Angel hanging over Buffy/Riley - not that Buffy didn't move on, but because what happened with Angel was so incredibly damaging and painful.

Without doubt some of the best videos in the 'verse. Far superior than the trailers Fox made. They also got a mention on whendonesque!

Those Robert Flannigan vids at The Quor Toth are pretty much my fave AtS vids of all time. I really wish he'd do more vids, and in my current fandoms as well. :)

I've only watched some of them so far, but my favorites have been "Memories" (so heartbreaking, those flashforwards - showing how Buffy could never have imagined how terrible her fate might be!) "Coin-Operated Boy" (showing Riley's appeal as someone safe, but ultimately emotionally unsatisfying for Buffy) and "Your Woman" (made me smile!)

That last vid reminds me that I need to hit you up for Spike/Angel recs, since I can never seem to find S/A fics that are canon-compliant, well-characterized, and big on snark. Or sometimes, when I do find them, they have such intense bloodplay, dub-con, and violence that I'm too squicked to read. Doctor/Master is a ship that also has that problem - their relationship is so dark and twisted that many fics have scenes too violent and disturbing for me to handle (and I have a fairly high tolerance for these things.) Spike/Buffy has a strain of this, but it's not such a high percentage of the fic that I can't manage to avoid it. (The Spuffy canon has enough scary dub!con; some fics go a bit too far for me to handle.)

Oh I *know*. And it's extraordinary how well the music and the speech fit together... also 16 y.o. Buffy makes me sniffle every time.

I'd been thinking recently that I'd like to try watching vids again. I've never really understood the point, and most of what I've seen has seemed little more than, as you say, "pretty pictures set to music." Anyway, I think this might be exactly the sort of list I needed to get me started. Thank you!

Totally my pleasure! I adore vids, since a good vidder can in a few minutes make points that would require endless pages of written meta. obsessive24's vids f.ex. do this masterfully. And a really good vidder can make you see things you never considered before! Have fun! :)
