Happy Birthday! I bring a humble drabble...

First:

Happy Birthday
[livejournal.com profile] scarlettgirl!!!!!!!

I hope you have a wonderful day with lots of homemade cards etc and a babysitter tonight! :)

Trying to think back, I think you were probably one of my first friends - I can't remember how I found you, but it was just around the time when you had Puckalina, and I was incredibly impressed with how organised you were! Also it was fun to find someone who wrote about their children! :) Anyway, I'm so glad that I got to know you - you have most definitely enriched my life!

I didn't think I'd be able to write you a birthday fic, since all the plotbunnies are otherwise occupied, but looking through my 'discarded bits of fic' folder yesterday I came across this little scene, originally from 'Maybe Someday' - only it almost works better as a standalone. So with a tiny bit of editing and a superfast beta from [livejournal.com profile] kathyh, I can now present a 200 word birthday drabble for you! :)

It is Spuffy, post-NFA and the setting is Buffy's flat, with Spike, Angel and Buffy. Spike is looking through her weapons chest, and finds something he likes...

Silence is golden

“Oh, chains ! Nice ones too!”

As Spike slowly let the links pass through his hands, appreciating their strength, he thought out loud: “Buffy - why do so many of our memories involve chains?”

Then turning to her he grinned: “Do you remember the bathtub?”

Chuckling she walked over to him. “Do I remember? How could I forget?”

He slowly shook his head, mirth in his expression. “Damn you were such a tease - that thing you did with your neck...”

Standing face to face, eyes locked in each other, they were lost to memories until they heard a strangely strangled sound. Looking up they saw Angel desperately trying to look as though he was interested in a tv-magazine. Biting back laughter, Buffy and Spike tried to explain: “It was a really long time ago..” “I was tied up Giles’ bathtub, very uncomfortable...” “He was just being grumpy because he could only have pig’s blood...” Angel looked up. “Don’t. Don’t explain. I don’t want to know.”

Buffy still felt the need to justify herself: “But it was all innocent! Not like the time-”

She stopped just a little too late.

Spike put a hand on her arm. “Probably better to leave it, love...”

Hee! Poor Angel. Of course, if he'd been really reading the TV magazine he might have discovered that he had his own show...
