Yeah, this is the point in the season when we usually get "Dalek's Take Manhattan", isn't it? And instead it's the (IMO) best episode of the season so far!
And loving River Song. She's annoying the Doctor, and she's up to something. She had me at "Hello, Sweetie"!

I loved it but I find River a bit too smug, I feel every time I see her I want to give her a shake. It was great though and it takes me back to the old doctors when the storylines took 4 or 5 episodes to complete.
I go all the way back to the first episode and the first storyline set in the Stone Age and then onto the Daleks. They really did scare me and they've never lost the ability to scare me.
Yes it was great growing up with it,it's like Star Trek in that the sets and the aliens could look rubbish but the storylines and the characters were so good you forgave them everything. Special effects are great but no good if you don't have a good storyline to go with it.
Also I love how much the show is just imbedded in the culture - it's part of the whole country's history, an ever-evolving story that everyone shares. We own the Doctor, y'know? And that's very powerful. (Like in The Eleventh Hour - everyone goes 'Oh it's the Raggedy Doctor' - it's the most wonderful in-show commentary!)
Speaking of Old Who, is it just me, or was this episode very reminiscent of "The Tomb Of The Cybermen"? Dunno, but I *do* know that Matt loves that ep! :)
Really? That's good news--I've always actively disliked her. I felt like I was being told instead of shown why she was cool and why I should like her. Hopefully this episode will show me. I look forward to it.
Also! I bought my extra package of icons! You can hold yourself partially responsible!
Well there's a fair bit of showing, so I hope you get won over! (River reminds me very much of Jack - not least because I can remember how hostile fandom was towards *him* when he first showed up: 'Who is the smarmy bastard who out-gadgets the Doctor and why is Rose ~flirting~ with him, omg he's AWFUL!' *g*)
Also! I bought my extra package of icons! You can hold yourself partially responsible! ::sends you River kiss::
Ha! That's funny! I don't actually like Jack, either, though I do think he's an interesting enough character (even if he is pretty smarmy!), though I don't ship the Doctor with anyone, so it wasn't "OMG THEY'RE THREATENING MY SHIP!" for me. He's just not a character I'd want to spend any time around irl.
But I'm very much wanting to change my mind about River, as I always want to like characters. I will report back to you!
Ha! That's funny! I don't actually like Jack, either, though I do think he's an interesting enough character (even if he is pretty smarmy!) Aw, I *adore* Jack! ::pets him:: (Have you read 'My Immortal' btw? It made me delve way deep into his character, and I learned to love him even more! *g*)
I don't ship the Doctor with anyone Not even the TARDIS?
But I'm very much wanting to change my mind about River, as I always want to like characters. I will report back to you! Well I hope she grows on you. *crosses fingers*
I haven't read "My Immortal," no, because I haven't seen Torchwood and because I love Buffy so much and, like I said, I don't care for Jack, so the idea of them together doesn't really appeal to me. But! If I ever do watch TW and decide I actually like Jack, then I will definitely check it out because I do enjoy your fics very much. [eta] I have pimped it out, though! Whenever I know that someone likes both Buffy and Jack and also is into crossovers, I always make sure to tell them about MI. So perhaps I've sent some readers your way? I'd like to think so!
I ship Doctor/Humanity. I think the show is a romance between the Doctor and the human race. :D
I'll probably get some time to watch it this afternoon, and I hope she grows on me, too!
I haven't read "My Immortal," no, because I haven't seen Torchwood Aaaaaah. That explains a lot. Jack on DW is... well. I can see why you might not find him particularly interesting or appealing. But on his own show - it's (quite literally, actually) like Angel. Angel on his own show is brilliant and multi-layered, but every time he crosses over he turns into his BtVS S3 self. Jack's the same. And trust me - Buffy and Jack, at that moment in time, are *perfect* for each other. One reason I wrote the story (and loved it so) was because I could give them both something just right, something good, if only for a little while, and oh, they both needed it. *hugs them both to pieces* (Also you should watch Torchwood. It's cracktastic, and wonderful, and might just rip your heart out.)

I ship Doctor/Humanity. I think the show is a romance between the Doctor and the human race. :D Oh absolutely. (And I *always* do this, but have you read "Yeah, I know what an allegory is," said Ace. Best. Drabble. Ever.)
I'll probably get some time to watch it this afternoon, and I hope she grows on me, too! I've got lots of meta brewing, and I'm not sure when I'll have time to write it, cause this week's going to be BUSY OMG. Anyway, hope she grows on you - and if not, I shall woo you with meta! *g*
Well, that's good to know! I was honestly a bit worried about how I'd feel about him on TW, too, since I've been closely following green_maia's reactions, and she and I tend to be on the same page about morality things. So I thought the "Just trust Jack!" thing might drive me crazy. But if he's not the one who is provoking that, or if I get to like him before the text goes there, I'd probably be much more likely to like him.
One reason I wrote the story (and loved it so) was because I could give them both something just right, something good, if only for a little while, and oh, they both needed it. *hugs them both to pieces* That is really, really sweet. I just want Buffy to be happy so badly, so I adore this in theory.
I probably will get around to watching TW eventually, though there's always an endless amount of TV for me to watch, so it might be a bit.
Aww! That drabble is so sweet!
Speaking of DW, I watched the new episode, and I thought it was really good. I can't wait for next week. And also, I don't dislike River anymore! I can't say that I actively like her, but I found her less annoying this time around, which is very much a good thing. Perhaps the liking will come with the next episode.

I'd recommend watching the first episode, because it really is quite brilliant in laying out exactly what the show is, and Jack's strengths and weaknesses. (And how hollow that 'trust me' really is. But then Jack's role model is the Doctor, which adds another layer. He trusted the Doctor (died for him, no less) and all he got in return was being left behind and the curse of immortality. Jack says 'trust me' because it's all he knows to say.)

Aww! That drabble is so sweet! Isn't it just? Sweet, and bitter sweet. I love it to distraction. (Also loved the latest ep with 'I'll never be done saving you!' *hugs the Doctor*)
And also, I don't dislike River anymore! Hurrah!
