Being Human 2.3
Apart from all the other reasons I love this show, I love it for consistently following through. If they set something up, they go there. Every time. Grown up telly rules!
Starting with the lighter parts though, the combination of George and Annie is *utterly* irresistible. The whole bedroom scene (it’s hot water!) was just wonderful, as was her sudden determination to ‘use her time well’ (because she thinks she’s going. *hugs her*). The whole fake dating made me *cringe* (omg the poem!!!), but it made me hopelessly happy that it actually *worked*. That amidst all the angst, two people found each other again, and were happy. Oh, and the George & Hugh bonding session was fantastic!
Also loved how both Annie and Mitchell, each on their own way, told George to pull himself together. They all have the most brilliant dynamic, and the big argument was utterly perfect. (Arguments are a tricky thing to pull off on TV, but here everyone was just right, and their reactions made sense. I wish I had LOTS more icon spaces, because Mitchell with the Marigolds was fantastic!)
But of course, it was Mitchell’s story that made me flail. I can’t *begin* to describe how much I loved the story - how he tries to keep things together (because there’s obviously no one else) and how well it’s been set up in the previous episode(s). He might be ‘clean’, he might be trying to live as a human, but he’s still a vampire, he still belongs in that world, and he doesn’t deny that for a second. It sets the show very nicely apart from the world of BtVS/AtS, where vampires (except members of the same family, or those in love), quite happily dispatch each other.
We see the difference illustrated with Daisy & Ivan. When they turned up we thought we knew them, but they’re not Spike & Dru - or Angelus & Darla. Ivan helped Carl because looking after their own is what they do. It’s not particularly out of affection, but partly because if one of them is discovered, they all are, and partly because they’re kin. They stick together.
And I loved the whole system that Mitchell resurrects - the undertakers, the keeping people in line (I also have a great, great love of characters saying ‘Do you know who I am?’), because he wants to keep both vampires *and* humans safer... Oh the road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions. (And the punishment of Cara (sp?) was just chilling.)
Long Live the King.
(Coming back to Ivan and Daisy I am very pleased that she has turned out to be the real troublemaker, the chaos element. Does she have a plan, or is she just revelling in what’s happening? I’m looking forward to finding out.)
And then the ending... We had all anticipated where Nina would end up. Of course the shock was seeing Lucy! Have I mentioned how much I love the writing on this show? Because I’d been wondering what she saw in Mitchell - I mean he’s obviously goodlooking, and friendly, but he’s only a porter... I began worrying a bit when she mentioned going to the chapel (and being so very interested in the vampire victim), but this reveal is all made of too much awesome. :) Yay for good plotting! Also yay for having a friendly, charming person as the 'Big Bad' - the old guy was rather a cliche, but I can totally see Nina trusting Lucy.
Which reminds me - what happened to Chaplain of Awesome? Guess they got him fired/moved. :(
And that's all I've got time for! *runs away*
ETA: Also, Mitchell is *delusional* if he thinks he can stop them from feeding. Although it fits nicely with his character, and his background. Wish we could see a flashback from before he was turned...

Excellent storytelling, and a worthwhile build up.
The twists and turns really paid dividends.
Great storywriting. And excellent acting as well.

*nods* And I love that balance, which is extremely hard to pull off!

It lovely when you can see that the writers have been very careful in how they've done things, rather than adding some last-minute ret-con to make things fit. (Not that I'm hugely against ret-cons, they can work very well, but proper plotting is a thing of beauty.)

Absolutely. I keep forgetting to mention the acting, because it's so good that I don't think about it. If that makes sense. :)

Yes, I knew where Nina would end up, but was suprised by Lucy turning up ... although in hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have been!
Mitchell - he is trying so, so hard to get and maintain control ... but, like you, I don't think he'll manage. Yes, I would like to hear about his turning - we have had an odd story flash, but it would be good to know the first steps.
Brilliat show - great scripts - beautiful acting
A**** - IMHO

It really is. I love George, but he can be very annoying!

Another sign of good writing. :)

There's limits to how well you can manage people using only fear...

Actually, I'd love to see him as human. Why did he join the army? Was he another young romantic idealist, swept up by nationalism?

Yup. A**** indeed.

However, this is a nice change, like it is in True Blood. I do wonder how Ivan will take Mitchell's elevation, though, considering he knows how weak Mitchell is. He wiped the floor with him in ep 1.

Oh no. The Joss verse is very much its own thing, so it's nice to see a different take. Esp the fact that everyone is soulless.

Well power isn't just about physical strength, although Ivan is clearly older. But does he *want* to be King? Guess we'll see. It makes for good telly whatever the case!

I was just *glued* to the TV all the way through that part. SO much win, and all just from everyone being themselves! :)

Ep 1 was *all* setup, but I like how the writers keep subverting what we think we know. And I liked the story in ep 2 very much, especially because it set up what happened next so perfectly.
Such a smart, unflinching show!
It really is. *admires the shiny*

That last scene was a real jaw dropper, all right. LOL

Yes, deft is definitely the right word.
And I'm coming to love Daisy. She adds a really nice element of chaos, as you said.
And it's impossible to work out her motives - if she has any. Which works beautifully of course. :)

Wasn't it just? *is happy*

...which is excellent plotting.
(And I also loved Mitchell and George flipping out over the tv show.)

Excellent plotting indeed! *loves show* And every step is logical, and perfectly in-character, and then before you know it he's become what he fought against...
(And I also loved Mitchell and George flipping out over the tv show.)
Every person watching will have sympathised!

Yes, Mitchell is delusional for thinking (as he clearly does) that he can keep things together. The system is evil and wrong, and that's going to grind away at his conscience. And the world is going to notice, especially with the "initiative" people snooping around.
But Mitchell does High Drama well, and I'm looking forward to watching.
I sooo did not see Lucy as the Big Bad coming. It all sort of makes sense when you think about it though; makes me reevaluate the first couple of episodes!
And I just adored Mitchell and George bonding over their TV show changing timeslots. That was hysterical, and very believable!

If I could, I probably would too! (I sat around, refreshing

I *know*. But it's so easy to see why he tries, even though everyone can foresee calamity.

Oh yeah. :)

Same here. And apparently she was the person OldGuy called up in the finale of S1, to report that 'they'd fond them'... *happy flailing* And I love the fact that now she and Mitchell are the leaders of opposing groups. The symmetry is wonderful.

*nods* And I'm sat there thinking 'You need to get cable so you can watch it on replay!' and wishing I could talk to them...

Sooooo shiny. ::pets it::
