More Christmas natter.

First of all thank you lots and lots to [livejournal.com profile] gamiila for the card! What a lovely surprise. :)

It came yesterday, actually, but I wasn't quite with it... See *everyone* has caught a cold (except me, of course), and night before last the Cherub woke up at around 2 am and would not go back to sleep. I ended up taking her downstairs and putting on Blues Clues (we have a very, very, very long tape that I recorded for Miss M once upon a time). I attempted to nap on the big sofa whilst she watched/coughed/clambered around/snuggled down in twenty different places/cried because her ear hurt.

She didn't fall asleep until 6!

I spent the whole morning asleep, and the rest of the day was v. v. lazy! (Sometimes I really like holidays.)

What else has happened? Watched 'Hamlet', which was engrossing and brilliant, even with 3 kids running around. Also it's been *forever* since I watched it last - I know I've seen both the Mel Gibson version, and the Kenneth Brannagh one, but it's that long ago that it was like watching it for the first time. Also somehow never realised just how slashy it is - am considering adding 'Hamlet/Horatio' to my interests...

Also watched QI (fun, but not a patch on Buzzcocks), the DT part of Catherine Tate's Christmas Special (and there was much flailing), and am slowly catching up on all the radio programmes. Loved DT and CT taking over Jonathan Ross's show - esp the 'New Business' game. Explained it to the rest of the family, and Darcy did his patented 'You are SUCH a sad fangirl/This is just SILLY, why are you sharing?' - and then two minutes later came back, saying that he had a new business... Ha! (It's here if you want to listen. 3 hours long, and they've got Bernard Cribbins & Peter Davidson as guests!) Desert Island Disks with DT was just lovely, and - incredibly - he was an even geekier child than I thought! Am off to listen to Who on Who (DT interviews RTD) once I've finished this post. :)

What else? Oh, I bought myself (and the girls) the most indulgent present - the first three series of Doctor Who! I spotted them on sale on Amazon more than a month ago and couldn't *not* buy them! I OWN DW ON DVD! *dances* And it's so SHINY!

Got some other shiny presents too - asked my mum to get me Hamlet, but since that won't get here until January, she decided to get me a couple of other things, so there'd be *something* under the tree. So I ended up with 'The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern' (I might have introduced her to the series when I first discovered it, age 13 or so, and she fell totally in love!) and my own copy of Cats in the Belfry by Doreen Tovey, quite possibly the funniest book ever written. I've been reading the first few chapters aloud to the girls, something that is very tricky when you double over with laughter every other sentence. Sometimes I love my mother so much I think I could burst! :)

But, I shall have to run - Darcy's taken the girls out, so I've got an opportunity to actually get the house more or less cleared up in peace! This will not be a chore, since I'lll have DT and RTD for company. (Is it tomorrow yet? *is horribly impatient and staying away from spoilers*)
