Wow.

US President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.

Know hope.

Translation:

World [via 5 Norwegians] to Obama: We ♥ U! Keep up the good work!
Obama's likely response: I love you too, world. Stay classy.

*g*

I like the guy, and voted for him and everything. But it's been what, 9 months? I can't think of any major foreign policy accomplishments or anything. Odd!

Cairo speech, address to the UN, work with the Israel & Palestinians, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea. He and Clinton have made tremendous strides in multiple areas of engagement.

I think the Nobel was a little premature - but sure shows how relieved the universe is that there is a new tone from USA.

As much as I like Obama... what exactly has he done to deserve a Nobel? Then again, at least it makes more sense than when George W. Bush was considered for the award...

IIRC, Bush was on the Nobel consideration list in 2002 (the same year that Jimmy Carter won the award, I think) for his efforts in fighting terrorism... o_0

I don't know, I like Obama, I feel safer knowing he's president of the US. And I do feel he'll rise the challenges he's faced with.

But... I don't think he's done enough yet to earn a Nobel Peace Prize. In fact I'd much rather see him get one in a few years after he's been president for a few years, rather than getting it now. Because right now it feels that he's getting it just for NOT being Bush (or another Republican)

Yeah, this.

Above all, I have a huge problem with giving awards for people simply for NOT failing to do their job. He's got a salary for that.

I kind of like the idea, but it's a bit giving him the award for having the heart in the right place not for really having done anything.

I'd preferred it, if they'd given it to someone like Shirin Ebadi again, where the money and the fame really helps to keep much needed organisations in a totalitarian country alive.
But maybe it'll help Obama to get his reforms through in the US, so there could have been worse choices (giving it to Bush would have been a travesty).

RIGHT? I heard when I woke up and thought I was DREAMING? Though now we have to listen to all this, WHAT HAS THE MAN DONE rants all morning has nauseated me severely. I tried to keep track of all the man had done and after the first two weeks, *I* was overwhelmed by the huge changes he was making to everything, and couldn't keep track anymore. The media's covering hardly any of it over here. But of course, since media is God, if they didn't cover it, it didn't happen, right?

I just loved that Obama knew the easiest way to quell dissent against him about this? Was coming right out and saying he didn't think he deserved to be in the same class as the rest nominated. Keep it classy, Mr. President. :)
