"IantoFic will one day rule the world with coffee and angst."

Above quote by [livejournal.com profile] inkblot_fiend and pretty much sums up my feelings post-S1. :) Also Jack/Ianto is a wonderful, wonderful ship! (Will elaborate under the cut.)

But first some recs, with angst and coffee:

The Life Outside by [livejournal.com profile] inkblot_fiend. A little Ianto-centric character study, looking at his role at Torchwood. Angsty, Jack/Ianto, 15. Really, truly perfect. If you read nothing else, at least check this out!

Absolution by [livejournal.com profile] a_farther_room. He’s not sure what he’d like more, the chance to keep his anger or the chance to be forgiven himself. Jack-centric - just go read. It's excellent.

Score by [livejournal.com profile] sight. Ianto's feelings. Drabble.

Jack/Ianto fanmix - The Captain and the Tea Boy by [livejournal.com profile] wolfhearted. I've not actually listened to this yet, but how can you not love that title? Also pretty, pretty graphics.

And after the angst, some fun stuff:

Go On the Useless Presents by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes. Post a staff party... Jack/Ianto, PG-13.

5 Times Technology Has Endangered Torchwood. by [livejournal.com profile] entangled_now. Everyone/everyone, very entertaining. Fiddling with alien technology is bad... Jack tends to do it anyway, and he's a bad influence on everyone else.

Jack/Ianto vid to Billy Joel's 'Captain Jack' which is such an impossibly obvious song to use, but how can you not? For those not familar with the song, this is the chorus:

Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island
Captain Jack will get you by tonight
Just a little push, and you'll be smilin'

ETA: Jack/Ianto/Owen vid to the Scissor Sister's 'Filthy Gorgeous'. Soooo much fun! :)

Episode 12. Apart from all his annoying remarks, Darcy did have some good points. F.ex. I agree that (the real) Captain Jack choosing to stay at the club rather than go after his girl was all they needed to show his attachment. The dancing & kiss were *way* over the top... like the writers had read a little too much bad!fic. Apart from that I enjoyed the UST, and the idea was great - Jack meeting the man whose name he stole, and the resulting connection. The man who can't die, and the man who'll die tomorrow... very neat.

Also *loved* the snippets of back-story, finding out about how Jack got into the military to begin with and that he really is a tragic character, immortality apart. I guess in a way he's very Spike-like, in that he'll happily enjoy everything that life has to offer, even as he knows it won't ever last. Of course he doesn't have Spike's heart, but it just occurred to me.

Episode 13. Bilis was Doc by another name, and without the freaky eyes & tail. He even looked almost the same and served the same function. The Beast (and was it the son of the big devil that we saw on Doctor Who, and in that case who was his mummy?) was unbelievably silly, but I guess we finally got some sort of explanation for why Jack was put in charge of the rift. And he also got to be in incredible pain, which might make him feel a bit better re. his dead friend. Still, it was all very, very obvious, right down to Gwen waking him up with a kiss. Still, it led to my favourite moment, which was the Jack/Ianto hug&kiss. Which brings me to...

Jack/Ianto: Why? Why have I fallen for the pretty boys so badly? I didn't even use to like slash. I am a victim of fandom! The fics above show the attraction very well, because it's all about the angst... and yet it isn't. To quote [livejournal.com profile] the_royal_anna for a moment:

But my other love story is this one: that when you're broken, sometimes the only thing you have that isn't broken are the relationships that keep hold of you even when you can’t keep hold of them.

There's a lot of that in Ianto/Jack. Ianto is still broken up after losing Lisa and Jack is obviously broken for a million different reasons, and more incapable of commitment than Buffy. "There's no one," he tells the real Captain Jack and Ianto certainly isn't his True Love; just as Owen throws Ianto's "Jack needs me!" back in his face, saying that he's just his part-time shag. And yet... to quote BtVS for a moment:

SPIKE: What is this to you? This thing we have.
BUFFY: We don't have a ... thing, we have ... this. That's all.

Jack and Ianto have something (but not in the same way as Buffy and Spike - or even Wes and Lilah). Whatever it is that they have, it's not a secret, it's not damaging and dangerous and destructive. Which is why I love that last scene so very much. Let me get an icon...

It's not an 'once-in-a-lifetime' kiss - it is quite simply Jack greeting his lover. Compared to most of the other kisses we've had, this one was wonderfully low-key. Which makes me hope that at some point in the future the writers will learn the art of subtlety. And that Jack/Ianto might last! :)

But I have waffled *far* too much! I guess the children being back at school made me rather giddy... so now I must go do some housework. But if you've written anything about the Torchwood finale, please link me? I'm *so* behind!

I really must get round to watching the last two eps of Torchwood. I'm not a lover of slash, but am really tempted by those last two vids, as I love both the songs so much.

(and I really hope this hasn't posted more than once, as LJ seems to be playing silly buggers at the moment).

I haven't read fic in so long it isn't even funny..just too busy, but you know how that is, don't you? Thanks for the recs, though. I'll bookmark them for later.

As far as discussion and goodies, check out [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three for all your meta/fic/icon/vidding needs. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a mod. ;) It really is a nice way to catch up on fandom without slogging through thousands of entries and comms.
