Fannish things. :)
Firstly, then apparently Amazon is made of fail. From what I hear they are trying to fix it (although not explain or apologise). This does not surprise me.
But onto better things - we had a 'No TV' rule during Holy Week, which actually worked rather well. The kids complained only the tiniest bit and then got on with entertaining themselves (& sometimes being bored). The rule only became awkward at the weekend when it necessitated a fair amount of recording stuff. But it paid off as we watched Doctor Who & Red Dwarf in one long marathon last night! :) Spoilery comments under the cuts:

Here's the thing. Much of this episode was kind of a re-tread of other themes and speeches we've seen, and some of the imagery was straight out of Midnight. And I honestly don't care. Like, at all. David Tennant sells that shit like nobody else and if he wants to make another point about how ordinary human life is the most important thing in human existence, for example, I will sit at his Chucks-clad feet and listen. I'm not proud of this, okay, I'm really not, on a very deep level. But I love the Doctor, I love the way he reacts to the crazy shit that humans pull, I love the things he says, and I missed him!
So yes, I enjoyed it muchly. Doctor ILU!Lara croft Christina was fun, although I think one adventure was just about enough. As Donna once wisely said, the [10th] Doctor needs someone to stop him, and Christina is not right for that role at all. (Can't understand people grumbling about his 'No more Companions ever!' line - Ten *won't* have another one. Eleven is a different matter altogether.)
Also liked UNIT - it's lovely for the Doctor to have that link. And Malcolm was *adorable*, although probably best in small doses! *g* (Seeing Jack would obviously have been AMAZING, but there really was nothing Torchwood could have done - especially since the Doctor disabled Jack's teleport. ::sigh::)
What else? Oh - 'I'll just step into this Police Box and arrest myself' is *still* making me grin, although 'He will knock four times' is of course lot more significant... (Dun-dun-dun-dun - I am totally expecting the Master to show up until it is proven otherwise.) (If the Master kills the Doctor, I think fandom might implode with joy. *crosses fingers and toes*)
There were probably other things, but it's late. This'll have to do for now.
Darcy and I are both big Red Dwarf fans, so it was with a lot of trepidation that we put this on... and to our great joy discovered that it still worked! Sure everyone is older and fatter, and the special effects were a fair bit shinier, but otherwise it was the show we love. :) (Ironing sneezes! Just the idea!) The meta of course was convoluted and twisted to a ridiculous degree, but I rather enjoyed it. To (briefly) look at the two main things:
a) The Blade Runner stuff was (IMHO) hilarious and brilliant. Loved it.
b) The whole concept of the characters becoming the authors of their own fate was fascinating. Of course it's been done before, but I still really liked it, and thought it was cleverly done.
I have more (and deeper) thoughts, but I'm nearly nodding off, so I'm going to finish now. Really, really hope that they get another season!

This is very sad, because they are both *awesome*! (Red Dwarf - the UK version - is one of the funniest, and cleverest, things ever made for TV, and Doctor Who is... well it's Doctor Who.) Anyway, I know that you are hopelessly busy, so won't tell you to go out and discover new shows to clutter up your head. *g*
A) That's the the cutest way to celebrate Holy Week! I love the idea and may appropriate it for my very own.
It was very lovely indeed I can definitely recommend it!
Seeing your name on my f-list totally made me smile!
Aw, I have exactly the same reaction whenever I see your name! :) (And I always read your posts, even though I SUCK at commenting. *hangs head in shame*)
Also - *smooches*

Can't understand people grumbling about his 'No more Companions ever!' line - Ten *won't* have another one.
Of course Ten isn't going to have another companion. Not only does the structure of the specials make that obvious, but he's traumatized by what happened with Donna. I hope that he can heal from that before he regenerates since I'd like Ten to be healed, but it may take the regeneration to fix it.
I have heard some rumors that Moffat isn't interested in having season long companions and I hope that isn't true. Even though I watch for the Doctor, I do like him to have someone to be with. Someone that he (and we) can know and grow attached to over time.

Good to know I'm not alone. :)
I'm just happy that she didn't have to die to not be a companion.
*sniff* Poor Astrid...
The Doctor may have given her some mixed signals, but he was quite direct in his refusal and even gave her the reasons why. (This is a step forward for him!)
Hee! Very true.

Exactly. I've just seen plenty of people grumbling over his comment, when he's just stating the truth.
I hope that he can heal from that before he regenerates since I'd like Ten to be healed, but it may take the regeneration to fix it.
I'm thinking so too - considering River's comments, he's a lot more together as Eleven!

Oh dear, same here! Also, how're they going to get the required amount of angst without a companion?

I liked PoD too. I agree that it reminded me a lot of Midnight, but it was a very different take on the basic idea. This time everyone worked together and were all multi-culturally cute. Since it looks like 10's final episodes are going to be pretty grim it was nice to see another romp.
Laura CroftLady Christina was fun, though I agree one episode was plenty. I liked 10s "Well I'm a Lord! Of something much bigger"-- hee! And I expected her to kiss him; it's a new rule!I liked the fly people better than I expected to as well.
The flying sting-rays made no sense at all, but they looked pretty good. Especially when they ate the fly-guys!
Poor 10. He's lonely, but he runs away from contact...

Wow. I am very impressed! (Giving up TV for Holy Week worked wonderfully, and the kids still don't miss it. It is BLISS!)

Yes, indeed. (And I forgot to mention this in the post, but I think one reason the Doctor was so happy to let Christina be in charge was because of his experience in 'Midnight'.)

Exactly. Happy Ten is a lovely thing. :)
Laura CroftLady Christina was fun, though I agree one episode was plenty.Someone somewhere pointed out that all of the other (new) companions would not get on with her AT ALL. (Not even Jack.)
I liked 10s "Well I'm a Lord! Of something much bigger"-- hee!
I *love* it when he pulls rank, as it were.
And I expected her to kiss him; it's a new rule!
Oh totally. I'm kinda hoping that Eleven will be more reticent. (Not the right word, but I'm sleepy.)
I liked the fly people better than I expected to as well.
It gave the Doctor an opportunity to speak 'alien' - for that alone I loved them! :)
The flying sting-rays made no sense at all, but they looked pretty good. Especially when they ate the fly-guys!
Darcy was very grumbly about the sting-rays. He doesn't like aliens to be ripped off from nature. (He's rather looking forward to Moffat taking over, not surprisingly.)
Poor 10. He's lonely, but he runs away from contact...
He doesn't want any more PAAAAAAIN! (I'm actually busy plotting out a Seeker/canon crossover fic where he goes travelling with canon!Ten at this point in time. There's a long and complex background to this that needs four other fics writing first... *headdesk*)

Haven't seen the Dr Who yet ... RL should be banned!

RL/holidays don't mix well with fannish pursuits.
