A self-rewarding good deed!

Do you like:

a) Listening to music

and

b) Helping people?

Well now you can help a high school by listening to their internet radio:

http://aci-radio.com/ OR http://www.aci-radio.com

An old friend of [livejournal.com profile] zanthinegirl's teaches high school in Turkey. He's hoping to show that despite the economic crisis a high school internet radio station can reach a wide audience. Plus, the kids think it's cool when little flags from around the world pop up.

The E-mail from John:

Calling all brothers, friends, and family!

I have an important favor to ask of you. I need you to go to my school's Internet radio station at the website http://aci-radio.com/ OR www.aci-radio.com, keep the site open for a half hour or more, and I need you to go to this site as often as possible. Here's why...

Our school has been riding the budget knife for the last few years, and now with the economic crisis firmly hitting Turkey, and the rising dollar exchange rate the school is making appreciable cuts. For us to keep this Internet radio station running costs a fair chunk of change. In order to demonstrate that we are functional, popular, and fill a student need, we need to have an extensive listenership. Moreover, if we can demonstrate an international audience is picking us up, then we can further defend the need for the worldwide broadcast opportunity provided by the Internet.

This is the first year for the radio club and it is my baby. I am hoping to offer an elective course next year in radio production. This will be a sweet class for me, which is exciting and an opportunity for me to prepare the entire curriculum. This also looks killer on my resume. Please don't consider this me attempting to dupe the school with inflated numbers. Consider this heartstrings advertizing.

Also, my students do love it when they see the flag counter on the website add new countries or to see the listeners go up on the existing countries. If you like what you hear, then perhaps you can send along the link to others. The students put together one hour programs, which are shuffled every so often by me. I also have two or three hours of programming from me when students fail to get their playlists in. Again, please help us out by going to our station repeatedly. While the thought of you keeping this site open 24/7 is appealing, the best you can do for us is to access the site and leave after a bit of time to then log in again.

Ianto FTW!

BTW any idea when the powers that be (AKA the BBC) are going to air this year's Torchwood? I know Dr Who has a movie for Easter and then a couple around Christmas ( last of the 10th Doctor-- :( ) but hadn't heard about Torchwood...

"Dandy Goth Coffee Master of Manpain"?? Oh come on, you have to at least post a link to that! :D

Only an hour? Meh, I guess we'll take what we can get.

Hee! I hadn't seen some of those. I'm lusting after the DW/FF crossover actually...

I think the Who-niverse crosses over with Firefly pretty well, actually. I can easily see Jack out there in FF land either as a result of living so long or maybe back in the time-agency days. Which could give up Cap't John; so win-win!

:D

Ah, but there are no aliens in the Firefly universe that they're discovered yet. And Firefly is set only a few centuries in the future; they don't have faster than light travel either so maybe they just haven't met the neighbors!

Though I like your idea; that walls between dimensions being breachable gives all sorts of crossover possibilities come to think of it!

[identity profile] zanthinegirl.livejournal.com 2009-04-06 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
(Seriously, with the number of aliens who continue to stockpile on Earth in DW, it's surprising that not *everyone* believes in them...)

Heh-- if I've learned one thing from watching old 70s Dr Who it's that they hit the 20th century too and still No One believes in them.

Except the Brig, and even then only kinda-sorta!

Did you read about RTD wishing he could have done a DW/Star Trek crossover?

I did; he's such a fanboy! It's probably why I love what he's done with Doctor Who. :D

I love Stephen Moffat's episodes, but I'm slightly worried that he won't quite be RTD when he's in charge... I guess we'll see!
