Fic: One in a Million. Part 2.

I don't have a suitable icon. Bother.

Anyway, here (finally) is part 2 of this fic, presuming anyone remembers it? Enjoy! Part 1 here.

Title: One in a Million.
Setting: AU post-Doomsday.
Characters: Rose + the Scoobies.
Rating: PG
Genre: Doctor Who/BtVS crossover.

Part 2

The middle aged man called Giles didn't look thrilled. (The fact that he looked exactly like the Krillitane leader was something Rose was trying very hard to ignore. Everyone had assured her that he was 100% human, but it still freaked her out.)

"So let me get this straight - she's from some unspecified parallel universe and you are going to try to help her find her way home? Do you have any idea where to start looking?"

"Not exactly..." Willow replied, looking somewhere between guilty and hopeful. "We had a look at where she came through from the other world, but they used some sort of alien technology and it's not really compatible with magic."

"So - Rose is it? - you know that there's only one chance in a million that you'll find..." he stopped, looked at Xander and Willow. "What did you say she was looking for? A doctor?"

There passed a strange look between them. Xander bit his lip. "He’s the love of her life apparently. Some sort of centuries old immortal guy..."

At which point Giles sighed deeply and removed his glasses.

"But-" Willow cut in, "he's an alien and travels around the universe in a spaceship! So nothing like Spike or Angel really!"

Rose didn't know what on earth they were on about. She fixed Giles with a cool stare. "One in a million is a lot better than I had before. It's either this or spending my life knowing that I threw away my only chance..." She stopped and swallowed, carefully getting her emotions under control before she continued.

"Willow said that she could bring me back home easily - as in to where they found me, my mum and dad live there..."

She could that Giles was still very sceptical, but - she realised - it wasn’t her his annoyance was directed at, as he swept up the others in a rather cold look.

“Can I just ask, since no one had mentioned it yet - did you actually get to the Land of Illusions?”

“No...” Willow looked suddenly chastised. “I’ll - I’ll redo my calculations, and next time it’ll work! I think I know where I went wrong.”

“Well I hope so!” Giles replied, the sharpness of his voice a little much Rose thought. “We only have three weeks left-”

“Until what?” she asked, and Giles sighed again. “The... the end of the world. I’m afraid you’ve not come at the best of times...”

She looked from one face to another. “There’s three weeks to the end of the world. Three weeks?”

Kennedy smiled apologetically. “We should probably have mentioned that before, huh? Sorry. Didn’t want to worry you...” Her voice trailed off as Rose went from giggling to laughing out loud.

“Three weeks? And you’re worried? Seriously? You have no idea how often I’ve faced the end of the world, and we thought ourselves lucky if we had three hours!”

Seeing the looks on their faces, she smiled smugly. “You see the Doctor is the most amazing man in the whole universe, and he could come up with plans like that!”

She snapped her fingers, and then of course had the whole thing backfire on her as she could almost hear him say ‘What? Is no one going to ask about the glasses?’ and if she’d only held on, everything would have been fine and she would still have been with him, and now he was all alone...

Trying to mask her discomfort she shrugged a little, changing the subject. “You know, it’s been a really long day, and would kill for an Indian. Could anyone lend me some cash? If you have any problems with this end of the world stuff call me when there’s like 24 hours left to go and I’ll see what I can do.”

A stunned silence greeted her words, and then Xander’s face broke into a wide grin.

“Oh you are going to fit right in. Let me grab a coat and I’ll take you to the best Indian in London, before I explain to you why Buffy Summers is the greatest hero of all time and why three weeks really is cutting it fine. Deal?”

She smiled back. “Deal.”

I wonder what you were going to do with that! :D

What a fun story! I hope you do bring the doctor in to it, he and Buffy facing off could be fun! Or Ilyria...

And Happy Birthday!
