Doctor Who double drabble!

So, I didn't like 'Midnight'. But rather than complaining, I've written (a tiny) fic. This is NOT a way of 'fixing' the episode btw, just a very... different ending. Really, not what you might expect at all! *g* Un-beta'd & a little rough I guess.

Title: Untitled.
Summary: What if 'Midnight' had gone a little differently?
Spoilers: Midnight (duh).
Rating: PG.
Characters: The Doctor & ?
Length: 200 words.

Untitled.

"Master - will you please, please stop? I am begging you - just stop!"

But the Master only shook his head, unable to speak, and kept giggling. He'd laughed non-stop for... the Doctor didn't know how long. There was no time in this place, which was far more disorientating than the lack of a physical 'world'.

The Doctor glared. "It's not that funny."

The other nodded vehemently and finally found his voice. "Oh but it is Doctor... It is the best joke ever. You - you - were killed by humans!"

The Doctor groaned and buried his head in his hands. "So were you!" he shot back, glumly, and the Master raised his eyebrows in mock astonishment. "Oh but I asked for it - and, I'm proud to say, truly deserved it! But you..."

The Master was overcome with mirth again, and the Doctor sighed deeply and gave up. He was beginning to wonder if maybe there was some sort of God after all, assigning people afterlives...

He wasn't exactly surprised to find himself in hell, but why oh why had the Master been given his own private heaven?

Imagine the Doctor trying to explain the Master to Rose *eg*.
I have written that scene a hundred times in my head. Although it's usually a little back-wards. Scene: Rose turns up, big reunion, sees Donna and Martha.

Rose: Oh... you got new Companions.
Martha: Actually, Donna is the current one - I'm only along for this one trip. Guess you could say I'm semi-retired.
Rose: Right... so just those two?
Doctor: That have actually travelled, yes.
Rose: What do you mean?
Doctor: Weeeell there was Astrid, but she died...
Martha: I thought you were going to say-
*stops abruptly*
Doctor: What?
Martha: Sorry, but... Nurse Redfern...
Doctor [suddenly very quiet]: Oh. Yes. But she didn't want to come.
Rose: Four?
Martha: That's just the women though!
Doctor [scowls]: Stop it!
Martha: What? You're not going to tell her about the Master?
Rose:???

And damn it I have to run...

Now that's just plain cruel *g*.

*tries to look innocent*

Aaanyway, the continuation of the other piece.

Seeker [grinning]: Not impossible - just a little unlikely. *points to Jack* He's the impossible one!
Jack [rolls eyes]: Oh come on, not again!
Seeker: What? You're the single most incredible thing in the entire universe! I'd spend my life studying you if only you'd let me!
Jack [perking up]: I think I like you, even if you are the Master's son!
Seeker: Speaking of which - where is he? My dad - I mean the Master. Off somewhere sulking as usual?
Doctor: What... no. He's... he's dead.
Seeker: Dead? But he's a Timelord, he can't die!
Jack [soberly]: His wife shot him, and he... refused to regenerate.
Seeker: Mum shot him?
Donna: OK! Time out! What are you talking about?
*lengthy explanations*
Doctor: Well... that's all well and good, but you don't look like you were born last year!
Seeker [frowns]: Oh no! Did I mess up the time? I'm 23... *studies tingamijig* See I built in a variable so I could track the TARDIS anywhere and anywhen, but obviously it needed stabilising more than I thought since I ended up here... [long technical mumbo-jumbo whilst showing off the thing that brought him over from the parallel word, and the Doctor gets very excited]
Doctor: That's *brilliant*! I mean... really, truly innovative!
Seeker [preens]: Oh I never get tired of hearing you say that. Actually - I want to make sure to keep these co-ordinates. Would you mind if I fixed it a bit?
*without waiting for the Doctor's agreement he runs round the TARDIS console, pulls up a grate and starts looking through boxes.
Seeker: Amazing! You've got tons of tetra-leads and brand-new Beryllium plates! It's not been this well-stocked since I was three! You know, I'm sure the only reason you let me have my own lab when I was only 16 is so that I'd stop nicking all your stuff!
*he grins impishly and the Doctor can just stare*
Seeker: Jenny... would you mind giving me a hand? You could tell me all about your life.
Jenny [happily]: Sure!
*they set to work and Rose & Donna burst out laughing at the look on the Doctor's face*

And that's all folks! (For now anyway - have a childrens' party to plan for tomorrow. *sigh*)

I wonder whose head would explode first at the idea of Seeker/Jenny, the Doctor or the Master *g*.

I think the Seeker's Doctor would be *thrilled*! The Master would be gleeful in the extreme. Canon!Doctor (if I can call him that) would be rather more worried... (as I will now demonstrate!)

Donna: You know, I think this is probably the Timelord equivalent of eating all the biscuits and then clearing out your purse! I can just see it 'Dad! I'm off with my friends - I'll just borrow the TARDIS, OK?'
Rose: *splutters*
Seeker: Not far off, although he never, ever lets me borrow the TARDIS! [shrugs a little] Although on the other hand he did get me my own spaceship when I was 18!
Rose: omg!
Donna: Just how spoiled are you?
Seeker: I am - or I was [admires Jenny some more] - the last child of the most brilliant race in the entire universe. It's kinda easy to get your own way. [catches Jenny's eyes] Seriously, you can get away with just about *anything*!
Rose [drolly]: Not exactly lacking in confidence, huh?
Seeker: I'm brilliant, and I know it.
Donna: So are all Timelords just hopelessly arrogant?
Seeker: Guess so. Also one of my first memories is being worshipped by the whole Earth. Feel free to blame my father for screwing me up!
Jenny [studying him carefully]: One of my first memories is being handed a gun and told to fight.
*The Seeker mulls this over.*
Seeker: You know, I'm honestly not sure which is worse. Anyway - thank you! It's all fixed now.
Jenny: My pleasure. Actually... I set my ship up with a rudimentary timetravel system, but it really could do with some work. Would you...
Seeker: Oh absolutely! Just wait till you see what my sonic screwdriver can do!
Doctor [finally finding his voice again]: That's- [splutters] You're as bad as him! *points to Jack*
Seeker [grins]: I was a very apt pupil! [turns to Jenny] So, where did you say you'd parked your ship?
*turns to console and casually starts pressing buttons and pulling levers*
Doctor [pushes him aside]: That's enough! This is my TARDIS, and I think it's time to lay down some rules!
*glares at the Seeker who suddenly looks a little nervous*

And now I shall go back to my party arranging. Thankfully Darcy is brilliant at these things!

Donna is delightful and made of awesome! And (although it was pouring down) the party went very well indeed - we actually had everything ready an hour early (and without rushing!). It's either a miracle or we're getting a lot better at this stuff!

Aaanyway, the last bit of my little crack!fic (for now anyway - I think it kept me sane these last few days):

Doctor: You think you can just swan in here like you own the place, turn everyone's head and take charge?
Seeker [smug, but with a serious edge]: Don't like the mirror, Doctor?
*Rose, Donna, Jack & Jenny all have carefully neutral faces*
Doctor [suddenly deadly serious]: No. Because if you really are the Master's son, there are two things you would know: One, that I am not going to believe a single word you say, and two, that you are the last man in this - or any universe - that I want chatting up my daughter!
Seeker [with about five different expressions on his face]: I understand. Goodbye Doctor.
*presses a button on his thingamijig and vanishes*
Jenny: Dad! You - you made him go away!
Doctor: ...

Interesting to see The Seeker confronted with a Doctor who doesn't have any knowledge of him. Must have been a bit of a shock.

There are all sorts of thoughts re nature & nurture wrapped up in it of course, but mainly knowing who his father is, the Doctor can't help but question everything the Seeker says. (He *claims* that the Doctor brought him up, but then that's what he *would* say if he was trying to insinuate himself into the Doctor's confidence...)

Anyway, I have a few more ideas that I might drag out some day!

*In the Seeker's universe*
TARDIS door opens and the Seeker comes in, still holding the device. His spaceship can be glimpsed outside.
Doctor: Where have you been? Didn't it work? But I made sure to double-check everything - just, you know, in case something went wrong...
Master: Wait, did something happen? I'm afraid I almost died of boredom.
Seeker [talking to the Doctor]: Oh it worked. Just... not quite how I planned it.
Doctor: Well I did say that you should have used hyperlinks and not tetra-leads. [grins] Shall we get to work then?
Seeker: No no. I've locked the variable.
Doctor [waves arms around in Doctor-ly fashion]: But that defeats the whole point! Why on earth did you do that?
Seeker: Found a better project - we're going to fix the fabric of reality!
Doctor: What? But that's... that's impossible!
Seeker: Come on! We're Timelords! If anyone's going to do it, it's us! I'm the Seeker, and there is no point in seeking without finding. I will work it out, even if it kills me twelve times over!
Doctor [eyes narrowing]: Just where did you end up?
Seeker [smiling]: Alternate dimension - a world without me! Or dad - he killed himself rather than spend forever with you.
Master: Parallel!me was obviously cleverer than I.
Doctor: So... who was there?
Seeker: Well Rose for a start!
Doctor [floored]: Rose?
Seeker: Yup! Had come through from Pete's World and my clever little gizmo must have latched onto her trail! So, we need to figure out a way of travelling between dimensions safely, because I don't want the universe to collapse every time I go on a date.
Doctor: Date? With whom?
Seeker [can't help grinning]: Her name's Jenny...
Master [rolls eyes]: How long were you there?
Seeker: Oh... half an hour?
Master: Great. Spend thirty minutes with some trollope and you're ready to cross universes for her. You're worse than him! *points to Doctor*
Seeker [sternly]: Watch how you speak about your future daughter-in-law!
Doctor: Daughter-in-law? I think your father has a point for once, who is this girl?
Seeker [grins widely]: Your daughter!
Doctor: ...
Seeker: Oh - and parallel!you really doesn't like - or trust - me, considering my parentage. Said I was the last man [shoots Doctor pointed look, since the Doctor, as many a parent, has trouble adjusting to the fact that his little boy has grown up] he'd want around his child!
Master [gleeful]: I'll pay for the wedding!
