Where/when does Jack talk about not being able to sleep - or that he only sleeps very rarely? It's in S1 of Torchwood somewhere, but since it's been more than a year since I've watched it I honestly don't know where to start looking. Just an episode number would be helpful. (I mean he did say something, right? It's not just a fanon thing that's sprung up because he likes to stand on top of buildings in the middle of the night...)
Well she is the character who stands in for the viewer when learning about Torchwood's world, so it makes sense. Also she's a girl, and Jack is much more likely to open up to girls (Ianto obviously being the exception, but that comes from their relationship, and most of it of course takes place off screen).
in Small Worlds we see him asleep (and having bad dreams) in his bunk. I *knew* we saw him asleep at some point - thank you! (This is all great btw, 'cause I can let him sleep as little or as much as I need to for my plot! *g*)

GWEN: Oh, God, look at the time. When do you get to go home? You seem to live here. (He shakes his head.) You don't, do you?
(Jack shrugs.)
JACK: Gotta be ready, the 21st century's when it all changes. And I hate to commute.
GWEN: Where do you sleep?
JACK: I don't.
GWEN: Doesn't it get lonely, at night?
(Jack doesn’t answer her. His smile fades.)
GWEN: I'd better get back, Rhys'll be wondering where I am.
(Jack takes a deep breath and removes his goggles. He places them on the table.)
JACK: Goodnight.
GWEN: Goodnight.

This is where the world of the child-having and the not-child-having diverge so sharply...
Maybe it's just me then.
DO you wear a long billowy coat? Cause otherwise it just looks silly...
