Fandom makes me happy. :)
Lots of squee-worthy things today, so I’ll do a lot of cuts!
First of all, there is of course the squee over Paleyfest. I’m sure you’ve all seen the pictures (if not
jamalov29 has lots) and some of the quotes make me very, very happy indeed. (
stormwreath has some bits & pieces here, and
shipperx lots here.)
I’ve seen two versions of this quote, but this one is my favourite:
Sarah Michelle Gellar: (to James) You look at things lately and I've seen a bunch of lists recently where they were talking about favourite characters, favourite shows... I saw the best love scenes this week - it was you and me, by the way. (audience cheers)
James Marsters: Take that, Angel!
Also of course I am VERY pleased that she said that Buffy would choose Spike! :)
ETA:
sweet_ali is the queen of links!
Our re-watch (or, in Darcy’s case, first watch) of AtS continues (he's seen S5, of course, but not much else). The other night it was ‘First Impressions’, which yet again made me wonder why there isn’t more Cordy/Gunn fic out there. Darcy *really* liked the scene with Wesley, Angel and the pink crash helmet. And when he heard this line:
Wesley: "Stop being such a wanker and put it on!"
he announced, “That is when he changed.”
(Also wondered at the use of the word ‘wanker’ and how US audiences clearly didn’t understand how rude it was.)
Oh and he thought that one of the bad guys ought to have called Angel ‘princess’ when seeing him in the helmet. I very much concur.
When watching the old film of the freak show, Jack remarked that he remembered the two acrobats (they were always fighting). This made me think of this line from 1.08:
I had a boyfriend that used to walk into rooms like that. The grand entrance. Got kind of boring. Though he was one of twins, so I put up with it. Twin acrobats... Man, I gotta write that book, maybe even illustrate it. I can talk for a long time, a very long time...
Of course if it *was* the same acrobats, then he ought to have said something about them being his lovers - but given the writer (and his complete un-shippiness) I think we can easily fanwank it. (I shall not comment on the ep, except to say that the problem was that it wasn’t really a Torchwood story. It could have been used in any show - Buffy, Angel, Doctor Who, [insert sci-fi fantasy show of your choice] - and nothing would have needed changing. Actually it would probably have worked much better as an original short film, since that was essentially what it was. Meh.)
I’ve been stalking
fodian, and she has some recs that you *have* to check out:
Quantum is a just fancy word for "hell if I know" by
lyra_wing. Jack/Ianto, R, S1, post-Cyberwoman. Summary: Ianto was usually the first to arrive and was always the last to leave. (This is woefully inadequate, but the fic wonderfully fills in a lot of blanks - how they got from there to here.)
last round before closing by
supacat. Jack & Ianto, S1 again. Spins off the end of Cyberwoman, and gives an excellent look into where Ianto’s head was probably at.
What Lies Within by
xtricks. Jack/Ianto, adult. Oh and there's tentacle sex. But how! Link goes to the last chapter [13] because it has links to all the previous ones. This is long, and plotty, and I won’t give anything away, but omg the angst! I haven’t actually finished reading yet, but it is one of those stories that I keep sneaking back to the computer for, just to read another paragraph or two, even though I shouldn’t be here. *meeps* ETA: Have inhaled the whole thing now, in desperate gulps, and it is *wonderful*! I need more! (Still, the ending is perfect. My show! My characters! ::loves::)
Finally - I got AtF #5! And there was much rejoicing. :) I’ll try to do some sort of review later on, although I only really have a few scattered thoughts at the moment. Lots of action, not a lot of meta. Love that story though! *hugs AtF*
(Have been listening to Aimee Mann’s ‘Lost in Space’ this morning, and it never stops to amaze me how like every single song could be used for a Spuffy vid! (S6, of course, except for ‘This Is How It Goes’ and ‘Pavlov’s Bell’ which belong to ‘Sleeper’. But the rest... lines like ‘Hate the sinner, but love the sin’ are just so *perfect* that it makes me ache.)
Anyway, I have to run. Have so much TV to catch up on (+ there's a Mighty Boosh Night tonight from 9pm on BBC3!), and there’s Easter of course, and RL, and fic writing...

James Marsters: Take that, Angel!
And so say all of us...

You know, I didn't think of it, but you're right about Out of the Rain. It was much more like (but not nearly as spooky or well done as) Hush. It really had nothing to do with creepy-crawlies coming through the rift.

Ha! (Angel always leaves. Spike always comes back!)
It was much more like (but not nearly as spooky or well done as) Hush.
Well sort of - but Hush *used* the silence to get the characters communicating in different ways, and helped all three relationships (Buffy/Riley, Willow/Tara, Xander/Anya) forward. This one just said 'Oooh look - spooky freaks!' (We did get Ianto looking at Jack like that [melts again], but that was quite probably the work of the director and/or actors.)

I see. I just kept thinking of a medieval (I think. Old anyway) story I read in French once. It was very silly and rather gross.

It is irresistibly squeeworthy *g*. There are some gorgeous photos out there.
except to say that the problem was that it wasn’t really a Torchwood story.
You took the words right off my keyboard *g*. I was going to say the very same thing. The writer of the episode P.J. Hammond wrote "Sapphire and Steel" and it felt as if it would have fitted into that far better.
Have been listening to Aimee Mann’s ‘Lost in Space’ this morning
It was the first album to go on my iPod :)

It is a good time to be a fan. :)
You took the words right off my keyboard *g*.
Hee! But I shall think of that episode no more, and look forward to watching the next two.
It was the first album to go on my iPod :)
It's good I'm not a vidder, or I'd *have* to vid the whole album!
Oh and I've been meaning to ask - would you mind making me a Buffy/Immortal banner at some point, when I've found some suitable pictures? (So give it a few weeks at least.)

And you don't happen to know where I could find a whole bunch of John Barrowman pictures, do you? I'm thinking red carpet stuff, as opposed to Capt Jack images. :)
no subject
It's OK, I thought that was what you meant *g*.
And you don't happen to know where I could find a whole bunch of John Barrowman pictures, do you?
Um, not really, though I suppose

The story is nibbling at me all the time and I don't have time for writing. (Doesn't help that I got sucked into reading fic of course...) Oh and did you like my tiny little silly epilogue?
Um, not really, though I suppose barrowmanfans might have something.
Oh thank you! So much easier than using Google.
no subject
Yes, very much *g*. I meant to reply but my internet connection has been dying on me for the past few days so it got lost in my general computer irritation!
no subject
I thought you might. ;) I can't tell you how perfect it all is - if only I had lots of time for writing. And I *so* need to re-watch TGiQ! (And don't worry about not replying - I figured you were probably fed because up of your internet woes.)

I've always wondered the same. I thought they made much more sense together than Fred and Gunn or Angel and Cordy.
Darcy *really* liked the scene with Wesley, Angel and the pink crash helmet
What I always remember about that is the clip where they're getting off the motorcycle and heading up to the house and you can tell DB is trying very hard not to crack up.
no subject
The problem is that they didn't go there, so in a sense I can't imagine it. I mean, of course I can see the *potential*, but knowing how the story turned out, I can't see how it'd work. (This is the problem with being a canon whore.)
and you can tell DB is trying very hard not to crack up.
Must re-watch that! :)
