Squee! Squee! Squee!
Spike gets his own story in 'Spike: After the Fall'! *somersaults*
To quote Mr Lynch himself:
I cannot express how great this is coming out. Didn't want to dilute ANGEL:AFTER THE FALL or the previous Urru/Lynch SPIKE tales with lousy spin-off, so we didn't announce this until we saw whether or not it would work.
It worked. It works soooo well.
This is gonna be goooood.
All the hell! None of the Angels!
It is good all my squeeing is virtual, because otherwise my voice would be suffering... (incidentally, this made me realise something: s8 has never made me squee. It has made me laugh my head off on occasion, but never squee. I think I just pinpointed why it fails [for me].)
This is like the best of both worlds - because I was always ambiguous about a Spike movie. This will give Spike his own platform, and yet not be on-screen which would make it too close to canon for comfort. :)
(You can see larger images of the covers here. I really, really want the first one as a banner, cause damn - that's my Spike!)
In conclusion: Squee!
(And I'll leave you all alone now, honest. Squee!)

Oh no - not afraid at all! See the Angel comics are set a few months post-NFA, and the Spike ones will fill in the blanks of what happened to Spike (and Illyria) during that period. And given the tiny snippets we've been given so far I am looking forward to seeing how it all played out!
*bounces some more*
(If you like I *can* tell you where Spike is at when 'After the Fall' starts, but it's going to have to wait, since I'm rushed right now.)

Spoilers for AtF.
ETA: *How* they became Lords is obviously what the Spike-comics are going to focus on. I can't wait! :)
(So you see how Buffy is pretty much not an issue. He *has* plenty of adoring women - especially a woman called Spider - but I can't see him falling for anyone. So far the I'd say that if I were to write Spike with someone, it'd be either Angel, Connor or Illyria.) (Or Spider, but I kinda presume he's sleeping with her already - but as I said, she appears to think the world of him, and he's just wondering how to survive and maybe even get out of hell.)
Re: Spoilers for AtF.
The "adoring women " don't bother me , it's pretty understandable ;-)
however Spike/Spider is of course not acceptable *wink*
Anything resembling Spike having something else than a sexual relationship post Buffy remains extremely hurtful -
I don't suppose they will go for Spangel or Spike/Illyria- my guess is they will try to avoid shippers heated debates.
Thanks for the link to the cover, the drawings seem nicer than the ones from Buffy comics.
Re: Spoilers for AtF.
I think so too - they're trying to tell a *story* (with an awful lot of characters and plot), not write romantic fiction.

So, so, *so* much nicer! Spike is hot, even if he is just a drawing! You can see the image that my icon is based on here, and the text comes from this speech that Spider gives:
“Listen. When we first crossed paths, the other ladies wanted to end you. You were shockingly handsome but a tad scrawny and very much the loudmouth. [...] I told them to spare you. I had rumblings that started in my heart and ended beyond. And I was right. You stepped up and eventually we began following you. You’re the single best thing about this or any other world.”
See why Brian Lynch (the writer) now rules my world? ;)
