THANK YOU Joss!

This is one of the best things I've read in a long time:

It has to be said: the Andrew scene in "The Girl in Question" was a victim of me dropping the ball. I specifically said there should be a party of men AND women, all glamorous and Italian, waiting for Andrew. I wasn't there when it was shot, and didn't have the time/money/energy to change it after the fact, though it made me crazy.

Andrew's sexuality is always on the cusp of self-awareness because Andrew is stunted emotionally and because it's hilarious.

[Side-note: The "people change" thing is a hold-over from the fact that the scene was originally written for Dawn (but Michelle turned us down). The idea was, there's little Dawn, then in the last scene there's hot grown-up Dawn going out on the town, a heavy visual support of people changing (since Spike and Angel always see her as older brothers do). But Tommy made it his own, 'cause he's Tommy.]

Oh, and speaking of Tommy, re: Buckaroo? Perfect Tommy was probably gay. How the girls did squeal, but that wonderful matching shirt and vest? Yeah. One man's opinion.

And finally, I posted my review of AtF 3 over on [livejournal.com profile] angel6_atf!

Yay! Joss remembered something! ;-) Now, see, that's what I've always thought that scene was about - great to see Joss comment on it. In all the furore over that scene, I could never help but think that the people crying that Andrew's "change" was to become straight were doing exactly what we usually claim homophobes do - ie reducing him to nothing but his sexual orientation. The change is in the tux, not in the ladies.

Loved your review, btw - did you see what I made of it? *evil grin*

Also I dearly wish we could have had fun party-girl Dawn in the comics.

Yeah, but she's a giant instead. Surely that's as much fun? I hope Joss read that post through again, thought of what's happening to Dawn right now and went "Hey... wait a minute."

[identity profile] beer-good-foamy.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And whenever Buffy said anything, Dawn could turn up her nose and say "Well I'm no longer a thief, Miss Bankrobber!"

I still say I'll forgive Joss for the entire Giant!Dawn storyline if we get an issue where Giant!Dawn carries Buffy from bank to bank, making her give back every cent and say "I'm so sorry, I promise not to do it again." In Schweizerdeutsch. On pain of trampling.

"Can't I at least keep the diamond? It's so pretty! Look!"
"Let's see. Did you let me keep that toothbrush I stole? NO."

[identity profile] ladypeyton.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ewww. Returned toothbrush? Why not just pay for it and throw it out? It's not like they;re going to put it back on the shelves...*grosses self out*

Thanks Joss with you.

But who the hell is Tommy?

Tommy Lenk?

I think he's talking about Perfect Tommy from Buckaroo Banzai.

Oh - a computer game?

[identity profile] ladypeyton.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No. A SciFi movie from the 80s. In fact the ultimate geek movie. If you're a geek you have probably quoted this movie at some point in your life.

Oh well, I'm obviously not a geek, then. Probably too old, or something.

[identity profile] ladypeyton.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I did use a qualifier so there's room for exceptions. And I *am* presenting anecdata. *grin* Let's use the back up test. Have you ever quoted Monty Python? If so, you still qualify for geekdom. If you've ever memorized the parrot sketch you may as well buy a pocket protector now.

Of course, if you've ever called someone a monkeyboy you've unknowingly quoted BB.

My favorite quote is "No matter where you go, there you are." It's probably my most often used quote.

Yes! :air punches: I am a geek!

I was actually thinking of giving my LJ a title, which would be My Fandom's Not Dead, It's Resting, but in fact currently it's quite active so it didn't seem appropriate. Geeky, though.

[identity profile] ladypeyton.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely geeky. *grin*

AWESOME. that's always bugged the shit out of me. especially since Joss ain't scared of the homoeroticism, I couldn't imagine why they had done that.

Bi I can handle. *grin*

As for Joss's TGIQ commentary, I never thought that Andrew leaving with 2 hot chicks meant he was straight. I figured that it meant he was still sexually confused, but at least now he was suave, confident and sexually confused.

After all, he had JUST had that uncomfortably long hug with Spike in "Damaged" and no one changes *that* quickly.

Sorry to butt in here, but ITA with [livejournal.com profile] ladypeyton. I always have thought that the young women were slayers, and that Andrew was taking them out as "Watcher, JR.", NEVER as having experienced a seachange of sexual orientation.

And yes: Spike was his idol...and that hug was rather long. (IIRC, Angel was smirking in that scene.)

<333 Andrew!!! <333

My sister has the BIGGEST crush on Tem Lenk. I wants him back on my TV screen. *grabby hands*

Does she know he had a bit part in the Transformers movie?

[identity profile] kittyzams.livejournal.com 2008-01-22 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! I think she's seen everything that he's been in. She's so cute about it!

I wish Joss would do this sort of thing more often...

However, the man is still sadly deluded on one point:

Andrew's sexuality is always on the cusp of self-awareness because Andrew is stunted emotionally and because it's hilarious.

Thanks for pointing that out, I would have missed it otherwise. Glad to know Joss didn't let us down in that regard.
