This is for [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch re. our thread the other day. (Snagged from The Sunday Times Magazine, Feb. 20th):

President Calvin Coolidge, who took office in August 1923 on the death of President Harding, was known for his dry wit and his frugality with words. Once, at a dinner party, a young woman told him she bet she could get at least three words from him. He answered: "You lose."

Heee! Saw a stand-up comedian doing a Condoleeza Rice impression the other day, saying that she had the job she had, because she could speak properly and knew how to pronounce 'nuclear'. And she had a rule that said: 'If you can't say it, you don't get to play with it!'

How I wish that was the truth.
