There are few things that can't be fixed with really good fic!

Re. my post about the pre-views... it was just a gut-reaction. I want to like the comics, really truly, I wish I went 'Squee' instead of 'Eeeek', but... Currently I just want the first story to be over so we can get to Faith. Surely a Faith story can't go wrong?

Aaaaanyway, I think I've worked something out - Joss is turning into George Lucas! Not literally of course (what an awful idea!), but he's revisiting a 'verse we thought he'd left. OK so he's doing sequels, not prequels, and they're only comics - but he obviously wants to go back to the originals and fix stuff a little and change bits around and kinda messing up the continuity. Sorry guys - we all know Han shot first. (Actually, I just tried to imagine the new Star Wars films as comics - now there's a scary thought! The best thing by far with the S8 comics is the dialogue, and Mr Lucas can't write it for love nor money!)

Did I have a point there? I'm not sure. My head hurts, but I've had some Toblerone and read some truly excellent fic, so I'll just pimp and let you go enjoy. Comics Schmomics - let Joss play with his shiny new toy - *my* show ended after 7 seasons! Actually, you know what? I think I've moved on. I love Buffy, but the show is over. It's dead and buried and I'm OK with that. Bringing it back just reminds me a leetle of this...

DOC: It's a tricky spell, girl. I can't say for sure your mother will come back exactly like she was. Sometimes these ... things ... get a little off.
DAWN: But she'll still be my mother. Won't she?
DOC: More or less.

So - you should all go read Man's Best Friend by [livejournal.com profile] tkp. PG-13, post-NFA, gen-ish, Angel, Spike, Nina, Illyria, and a puppy. Beautifully (and oh so very cleverly) written, funny, poignant, characters that leap off the page and right into your heart... I'm trying and failing to adequately explain how good it is, so just give it a try, OK? Trust me.

Hee-- Joss is turning into George Lucas! That's it exactly! I have to say I'm enjoying the comics so far, but not in any life-changing sense. And I'm trying hard to enjoy thinking about the plot holes without going a little wacky, but (for example) Willow not actually killing Warren is definitely Han shooting second!

Second the rec for Man's Best Friend! Wow! Just, Wow!

Willow not actually killing Warren is definitely Han shooting second

*boggles* He's trying to back out of Willow killing Warren???? Holy shit. I've lost respect for him now.

It's in the preview/ spoiler for the next episode/ comic! But of course we only have a couple of pages, and so we don't actually know the context. Or if it's really Warren, or if he's telling the truth about the lack of death thing... ::clings to ever fainter hope::

apparently Amy magiced him away in that flash of light when Willow said 'bored now'

As I point out in my most recent LJ, this is utterly incompatible with the sequence of occurrences in Villains. Willow turns back to Warren and burns him deliberately.

Not to mention Warren being being dead and the First taking is form is pretty freaking important to the whole of the S7 plot.

It's very hokey. And lame. That's the worst. Buffy was never lame.

But in the end, it's not real anyway, Jossy McNotcanonpants.

I totally agree with you about Buffy being over. Someone you linked to said in their post, "I want to hear what Joss has to say." And, well, I don't. Ha! I thought he told the story and now he should walk away. I almost think of the comics as fanfic--where Joss is a fan of his own universe.

Thanks so much for the rec. I'm having so much fun with it that I'm glad others are too.

I've been wanting to put together meta for *months* about the nature of canon and about how a creator can say something's canon as much as he likes but if the fans don't glom on it's not *their* canon and if other fans do like the new stuff fandoms can split and have separate canons for branching fandoms; my main support for this theory was George Lucas and his little...projects. The thing was, I thought some of the dialogue *was* good in the OT. I mean, who you calling scruffy-looking?

But anyway so far I'm *really* liking the comics. I've only read the first two. I'll be upset if Willow didn't kill Warren, but right now I'm busy having faith. Oooh, and I'm waiting for the Faith arc, too!

... I really have no excuse, except that I already had Paint Shop Pro open. And I had a really long day at work.

But if Joss is Lucas, then who's Jar Jar?

Joss is turning into George Lucas

Aaaaah! ::runs away::

That's probably the reason why I can't bring myself to read comics (I am saving them though!) yet. It's too dangerous for my sanity, already on precarious balance due to hormons and work...

You know like I said I would read the beginning of the fic you highly recommended , by [livejournal.com profile] girlpire ? I meant to do so yesterday but then I decided to also try Man 's best friend , and I did enjoy greatly the first two chapters.
I agree with your opinion : it's beautifully written , a lovely combination of humor and feelings that go deeper . Her dialogs are superb and convincing.
I like Spike and Angel bantering , it reminds me of the show. Her Nina's voice is nice , too.

It just felt 'bizarre' to read about Spike not thinking of Buffy. :) I'm going to post a litle something about my impressions.

Girlpire' s fic will be next on my list.
