elisi | Some Spuffy (and B/A) thoughts....

We watched 'Bad Eggs' the night before last (Darcy said lets watch Buffy, I said which one, and he got impatient, pulled out a random disk from a random DVD box and said the fourth one on this. Which was 'Bad Eggs'.)

Aaaaanyway, the B/A scenes are all schmoop and kisses and they're just so sweet and tragic (c'mon! Who hasn't been in love and felt like that?). This scene especially just kills me:

ANGEL: (swallows) You really don't care what happens a year from now? Five years from now?
BUFFY: Angel, when I look into the future, a-a... all I see is you! All I want is you.
ANGEL: I know the feeling.
He reaches down to kiss her. He finds her lips and she responds. They kiss more and more passionately. The camera pans away from them and across a gravestone that reads 'In Loving Memory'.

The next episode is 'Surprise'... And the thing is, even though Angel will come back from hell and all that, they will *never* be as happy together as they are in this episode (or OK, the end of the next one, but you know what I mean). Ever. They get to the top and then it's all downhill - they can never get back up.

But Spike/Buffy - that's a different thing altogether. Their story *ends* at the top - it starts out ugly and messy and twisted and slowly, slowly gets more beautiful.

So although I want Spike and Buffy to end up together, in a way it doesn't matter. Because their ending was perfect.

Oh absolutely. And I'm one of those who likes Willow/Kennedy.

This song is always on the "Most Played List" on my ipod. It always makes me think of S/B, and it's so so lovely. :D

I'd never come across it before I got Stoney's mix and I was amazed at how it could have been written for that scene. :)

While I agree that Buffy/Angel has beautiful moments, and the Buffy not thinking about the future is one of them, this episode actually reminded me of how frustrated I was with Bangel in general - it's so immature. Romeo and Juliet it is - complete with the really really stupid actions of the hero and herione (though not quite as bad as dear Shakespeare's classic).

Sorry for the rant. I tend to react strongly to purely short-term views of life and love and such.

Oh absolutely. One thing I found myself wondering about was what went through Angel's head - because he's *not* 16. Mostly I think he's just amazed at the fact that she actually loves him - I think that at this point a lot of his self-validation comes from her. If someone as wonderful and good as Buffy can love him, then surely he's worth something - he thinks that she is his redemption (which is one reason he loses his soul). Of course that all comes crashing down to earth: "Look, I'm weak. I've never been anything else. It's not the demon in me that needs killing, Buffy. It's the man."

Since R&J were Catholic, I'm pretty sure they would still be married. However, I'm pretty sure Romeo would be hanging out with Rosalind again, and Juliet would think that that Paris looks pretty hot. :-)

I remember! :) I think it's terribly, awfully tragic - because they think they're getting another chance, that things will work out. But they won't.

There is that... what I was thinking about was more that her cousin killed his best friend, and he killed her cousin (who was obviously a dear childhood friend of hers). I don't know that they would have been able to overcome that in the long run. Oh and if recall correctly then in the play Romeo kills Paris (Paris is watching over dead!Juliet, and they fight).

I honestly never even thought that far...

I think my very favorite Buffy/Angel moment is in What's My Line, Part 1 when they're at the ice skating rink after the fight with the Teraka vamp, and Buffy reaches up to the cut on Angel's face. He pulls away and she says, "Don't be such a baby. I'm not going to hurt you." and he's all ashamed because he hasn't been able to shake off his vamp face yet (probably because he's so freaked over the Teraka and scared for Buffy), and Buffy reaches up and touches him and says softly, "I didn't even notice." At that point, she had totally accepted the monster in Angel. But of course, at that point she didn't really know the monster in Angel. And that's the big difference in her relationship with her two vamps. With Angel, she fell in love with who he wanted her to see. With Spike, she always knew who he was.

I do agree with you that I'm happy for the Buffy/Spike story to have ended as it did. I really don't ship them anymore, and am more than happy for Spike to be his own man now. Or, you know, with Angel. *g*

Aw I'm definitely with you on that one! (I think there's a definite affinity between Slayers and vampires.)

Wordy McWord. (I have a fabulous scene at the end of 'Maybe Someday' (S/B) where Buffy inadvertedly sees the less pleasant side of Angel - how much Angelus is a real part of him. *Loved* writing that! *g*)

Oh I ship them! :) Mostly because I want Buffy to be happy and I think she'd be happiest with Spike. My ideal post-NFA scenario is portrayed in

stultiloquentia's So This Is How They Are, which is wonderful in all it's Spuffiness, but only becomes *really* perfect because of this extra ficlet that fits into the middle: Getting It. (Very short, but turns me into an incoherent pile of goo Every. Single. Time. Just read it, 'K?)

I'm not against shipping them; I just can't seem to go there myself much anymore. I find that when I want to write in the Bverse now, it's either gen or something else (like I'm working on for the Hellmouth ficathon.) Maybe someday, I'll come back to them.

Ah well that's a different matter. I've only written one proper long Spuffy story, all the rest of my fic being gen/Spike&Angel friendship stuff. Oh and the Spuffy story had lots of Spike&Angel in it too... heh. Anyway I've just started the sequel which is more about Spike & Angel, even though it'll feature S/B too. Must try to do something interesting with them!

Nicely said-- Spike and Buffy are just more interesting than Angel and Buffy. "Warts and all" as opposed to the idealized vision.
