I haven't said anything about the wild fires in LA, because it just seems so unreal. But conuly has a lot of links.

It's really horrifying. A friend who lives close to the fire areas and who evacuated for a few days told me that a nearby city is completely gone. And the high winds are returning today.

I suspect the worst is yet to come though. Apparently realtors are starting to press people considering selling to do it now because demand for housing is expected to skyrocket given all the homes that are gone or unlivable. Yet many of those unhoused could not afford other homes even before the fires and much less once the market has contracted. So there is likely to be a large exodus of people to other places or an increase in permanent homelessness.

The friend was planning to leave even before the fires due to the massive layoffs in the entertainment industry. I wonder how many other people lingering in hopes of being re-employed will also relocate.

That all sounds awful. I hate how well Capitalism makes use of global warming and people's despair. :(
