Good Omens S2: The Big Tumblr Meta Post
So, I haven't been around much for the past month due to, well, living on Tumblr. This is the result. It's a carefully curated post of the discourse/meta on S2 of Good Omens, analysing and digging into the themes and characters. Incomplete, obviously, as I will be adding more since it's an ongoing conversation with the show.
Although there are a few DW posts, mostly it's Tumblr. Also, there are a couple of my own posts in there, as well as one of Promethia's and many of Owl's. :)
For reference, here is my Good Omens Master Post, which I will add this post to. I will presume that everyone is familiar with everything in that post, certainly the meta side, as it's a complex and deeply layered show. Enjoy!
Neil Gaiman really said, friends to lovers, slow burn, 300,000 words, incomplete

Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death plays Queen instrumentals, and after listening way too hard to the coffee date scene, I gotta share how well the part of the song they used fits.
The kiss lasts as long as the song in the Bentley does.
"Don't bother" from the S2 soundtrack sounds very similar to "Crucified" from the S1 soundtrack

I'm glad we live in a world where Neil Gaiman took the angel with the flaming sword and the serpent of Eden in The Real Bible's Book of Genesis and decided they should kiss each other on the lips (Lengthy meta on the Biblical significance. tl;dr - then they accidentally humanity's parents.)

Tinfoil hats off
And on that note: i feel like all the theories that exist for why aziraphale went to heaven that basically boil down to “he was out of character so here’s what the plot twist is” really cheapen the story and underestimate the depth of aziraphale’s character and his potential.
Is that. A Nightingale???? (On choosing the bullet catch.)
aziraphale and crowley are so bad at convincing anyone that they don't know where gabriel is
OK so I have been trying for the longest time to make sense of why the fuck they KEPT GOING WITH THE MAGIC ACT when they realized they couldn't do miracles. And I think I've got it.

i can see it now. every single interaction aziraphale and crowley have in s3 is going to be drenched in enough sexual tension to supply water to guantanamo bay.
Crowely offering/tempting Aziraphale with the ox ribs...it's a direct parallel to Adam and the creation of Eve.

Both sides of the argument
Many thoughts on Aziraphale and how he sees Crowley/the world and how it informs everything
Aziraphale didn't respond to the love confession from Crowley because he didn't realise it was one until Crowley mentioned the Nightingale and kissed him." (excellent)
Added October 2023:
The thing is. What happened to Crowley and Aziraphale at the end of ep6 is what happens when people aren't free.
on aziraphale's insecurities in S2
You know what, at least Michael Sheen admits he tried to kill us all. He just full on admits it. Got to respect that. (The Ending was built in from the start.)
Nightingales in literature can symbolize so much
Added November 2023:
What makes the ending so heartbreaking is that whether Aziraphale stays or leaves and Crowley follows him or not they will both be unhappy.

About the 'I forgive you'
i think it's fascinating how crowley has never ever actually forced or even pressured aziraphale into anything.. [UNTIL] (the tags, oh Lord, the tags)
Can we talk about the fact that Aziraphale didn't pull away from the kiss?
The kiss with quieter music
Aziraphale's Left Hand
There's a story of questionable veracity about Harry Houdini performing an escape in which his wife passes him a key with a kiss.
This is the worst detail 😭😭😭 (Also read the comments for further devastation.)
Added November 2023:
After rewatching the Final Fifteen over and over again, I don't think Crowley wanted to kiss Aziraphale.
(Honestly, what this reminds me of is this line from Slow Show which has a somewhat similar scene: Crowley moves without thinking. Falls like a stagelight, glass everywhere. He walks forward and is kissing Az before the door has even been pulled shut.)
On how Crowley and Aziraphale felt during the kiss (but mainly Crowley here)
That big damn kiss. (aka how to give the audience what they want in the way they do not want)

Like I said above, part of it just for myself so I can find stuff. ^_^
I'm still working my way through it, and while there's a fair amount of stuff I've already seen on here, there's still a lot of it I haven't.
Yeah, I figure it'll be that for most - there is just SO MUCH out there.
How is there this much juicy, juicy stuff to mull over in this story? :)
Magic.
