Eurovision
We are at the cinema watching live! :)
So no live blogging this year... but hoping for a good show!
ETA: There is an advert for a show called 'I Kissed A Boy' which might be the gayest thing I have ever seen.
Also a lady has handed out Union Jacks, as she had plenty extra.
ETA2: This was SUCH a good idea. Eurovision should always be watched on a big screen.

*grump*
But good for you, getting to watch it on the big screen!

I don't know if it is the price that is off putting, or the service, either way you might be able to catch some of it on youtube if you really are curious. <3
But good for you, getting to watch it on the big screen!
Not cheap, but SUCH a good choice!

And now that I know Sweden won, it kind of takes all the fun out of watching. Maybe next year, though. I mean, I really want to be able to watch, and perhaps our bank book will be able to handle the cost.
More than you needed to know, of course. But it sounds like you had a ball!

I shall NOT tell you what we paid for our cinema tickets! (Although if you want to pale at a cost, look at what the charged for tickets to the actual event.)
and I know I'd forget to cancel it after the first month.
Whenever I've signed up to something that I NEED to cancel I put like 5 reminders in my phone... So far that has worked. (My life would be chaos without phone reminders.)
And now that I know Sweden won, it kind of takes all the fun out of watching.
You should watch the videos I posted in my next entry. <3

It's Fabulous Entertainment Darling!

You're right about doing the "don't forget to cancel" reminders. My problem is that I forget, even with reminders. I have a post-it note on the mirror in my bathroom, which says PILLS! to remind me to take my morning pills.
And I still forget. Sigh.
I'll look at your next entry. And I already agree that Eurovision is Fabulous Entertainment, Darling!

Darcy was adamant that if it was held in the UK we'd go and see it in person... until ticket prices were announced. So this was a (much much cheaper) compromise.

Oh dear. I hope you find a magic solution, and can then sell it and be rich!

SO MANY RAINBOWS.

A middling song, not much different from that the artist won with before ( I only remember it because I listen to a lot of previous Eurovision's at this time of year ) , won and a bunch of dreich songs got a mess of points and a truly awful one came second and yet was actually better than the one that country won with years ago.
Still I had tremendous fun going through the songs and ranking them, discovering some wonderful music that, even if the eurovision voters could not appreciate, will be played by me for a long time to come.
I'm relieved I can't watch live anymore as it feels more a performance contest than a song contest ~ says I pondering the irony that a group that won because of their performance in 1974 are still one of my favourite groups and, as I said to you some time ago, if I was to vote now I would have voted for Italy not Sweden back then.
Ah well, I'll be back next year; not in Klaksvik ;-)

It's a strange beast. *g*

She's very good at what she does, but it didn't do much for me, alas.

Finland was ROBBED! (Finland was just so much fun! Find a video of the actual performance. Ditto Australia.) Did Italy come 3rd? That one might have grown on me, but his voice wasn't as good/interesting as Cyprus or Switzerland. No wait, Israel came 3rd! Yeah, no idea. Fun and poppy but nothing else.

And that is a good thing! It's very rare that anything goes the way we wish. ;)

I'd argue that it's both, but that songs without a good performance are handicapped.

LOL. No. ^_^

If anyone was robbed it was the likes of Georgia & Latvia who didn't make the final.
What is even worse is I thought this year's Finnish entry which is in my bottom five of the thirty-seven, is slightly better than the even more atrocious one they won with several years back.
I was actually uncertain whether to put Sweden in the 3pt category, or the 2, so I probably listened to that one five, maybe six times because I was unsure. Even though it and Italy both got 3pts I liked Italy much more than Sweden's.
If I ever visit again I HAVE to get myself a KI Klasvik jersey especial like ;-)
Most of the ones people have been raving about I just do not understand the appeal; much better off watching the songs separately anyway. Being in a cinema, or other 'live' venue would not be worth the stress.
Glad you enjoyed it though.

LOL. Reminds me of Graham Norton's quip about Germany: "I really hope they don't win. It's not that I have anything against them, I just never want to hear that again." (Sidebar: My mother thought it was great.)

Ah yes.

I don't think I liked Lordi's song, but just the fact of the performance was crazy.

No disagreement there.

... I wonder if such a thing exists. I mean, to buy.

My mother commented that she'd pay NOT to go. *g* But as my new post shows, there is so much more to it, which is a big part of the appeal - the whole show is fabulous and full of wonderful things. You should watch. <3

My feeling is; think I mentioned this last year, that 26 in the final is far too many.
There's no reason why there can't be three semi-finals, or qualifiers.
You can still have the five big contributors pre-qualify, as well as the previous winners. Should that be one of the big five you can check the votes and have the next best entry out the non-qualifiers; top five from each qualifier, to make a total of 21.
Much more manageable, and you needn't have them all in the host country. Have them in three venues, with a week of events in the host country leading up to the final.
I will go through each of the entries; some of whom have non-eurovision promos for single releases, and get them in some kind of order.
A couple of the songs grew on me as I listened to them again, but the top four pretty much remained the top four through the whole process, though Norway & France gained on Estonia which itself gained so much I broke my rule for the first time and awarded them and Spain six points.
Really not too interested in all the extraneous stuff; much too much fun to go over the actual entries and have them jostle for position in my head.
Actually I was disappointed that in the semi Alika, for Estonia, wasn't playing the piano herself; was played remotely. I thought that really weakened the entry.
I recall last year; Cyprus I think it was, one song had a poor semi-final performance and a good song failed to qualify.
Never had time to put together any Eurovision posts this year, but I can hopefully do something next weekend. I do want to do some posts about all the previous contests anyway.

That sounds like a sensible compromise.

Hear hear. Norway was just so much fun! And the singer was delightful.

I shall definitely point people your way!

I had a lot of fun! I liked Italy and Czechia, and Moldova's always a weird delight.

Well there were only about 10 of us in the whole place (and we were 5), so the main hindrance was simply the sound level. But it was worth it for the spectacle.

Moldova was peak Eurovision! Oh and yes, Czechia was nice. I would have been happy with Finland winning. Or Australia. :)
