I learned about Harry Dresden/The Dresden files via fannish osmosis. I knew he was some sort of private eye, that there was a whole books series and that James Marsters did the audio books.

I never - not ONCE - remember anyone mentioning that he was a wizard. I found out via this very silly video. I presume I must just always have skipped past people's posts.

Over the weekend we watched Zoolander 2 and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Both are hereby very much recommended. Zoolander is a worthy sequel to Zoolander, and Derek and Hansel are still as incredibly stupid and endearing. <3 The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is Nicholas Cage playing himself (which really is reason enough to watch!) but also has a bromance that reminded me of RRR is all the best ways.

Speaking of the government, then the whole GRC mess is... *hands* I can only hope that this will make people understand the issues better and realise that the issue is - nothing.

Finally, this. Which is very much unofficial, but HILARIOUS. Watch and enjoy.

I find that genuinely hilarious. :) I've also been watching those videos lately. They're a lot of fun. And I'm pretty sure that one's accurate to how that particular confrontation would go, too.

It seems such a fundamental thing? And I'm like... wait? Harry Dresden is a wizard? Since when? And a lot more powerful than Potter-verse ones? I - am intrigued.

It does seem pretty basic to the entire premise, yes. :) And Dresden Files wizards are pretty badass. Harry might not start off quite that ridiculously overpowered, but, hoo, boy, has he gotten there over the course of the series.

I might need to check out The Dresden Files... at some point.

People's mileage varies on them a lot, for reasons I can understand, but I find them a lot of fun, generally speaking.

re GRC, a question from Across the Pond:

Has Scotland always been more queer-friendly than England, or is this a recent Fuck You England development?

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is Nicholas Cage OMG, I so need to see this movie, lol!!

LOL!! I know I've made mention of Dresden in my posts, but if you don't know or are not interested, you wouldn't know that Harry is a wizard, so no surprise, but still funny, lol!!

Enjoy - tis a good (if a bit dated for the first few books!) series. And enjoy the mess that is Harry (I read for some of the other characters as much as for Harry...Mister, Bob, Susan, Mouse...)

The Dresden books are good fun and Jim Butcher writes very good fight scenes. There was a TV series which skewed things a bit but could have been good had it survived one series.

I found the Dresden Files books enjoyable, but I think they jumped the shark around book 10 or 11. Also, a word of warning that they're the kind of books that would be about 30% shorter if you removed all the descriptions of women's breasts... (also, one of the later books has probably the most egregious case of fridging a female character that I've seen in years - and based on how it was done, I have a bad feeling that said character was based on the author's ex-wife...)

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was by far my favourite movie I watched last your. It was so funny and surprisingly sweet. I watched it mainly because in the last few years Pedro Pascal has become one of my favorite actors - I've liked him since he was on The Mentalist (and also liked him before that on Buffy, but didn't know who he was since he used a different name back then) but he's had some amazing roles recently with TUWoMT probably being my favourite.

Haven't seen RRR yet, but it's on my to-watch list.

And I didn't recognise him at all from Buffy - but then that was a long time ago.
I'm not surprised because these days he doesn't look anything like he looked on Buffy :D But in hindsight, Eddie the Freshman on Buffy does have a lot in common with Javi Gutierrez in Massive Talent.

(fun fact: apparently Nick Cage originally thought that Pascal was a method actor, and only later realized that he just was a huge fan and a movie geek in real life too)
