Rainbow post :)
Also (via... someone on my flist, sorry lost the post) a delightful fic starring Izzy Hands (his voice is spot-on), but under a cut cause the description is spoilery:
everybody knows how this goes, so lets get over it (and let's get this over with)
Summary:
Israel Hands, first mate to Blackbeard himself, number one Stede Bonnet hater, and general badass experienced pirate with (infinitely many) better things to do with his time, is sneaking silently across the deck of his own ship in the dead of night, bent on taking a rowboat and expending a great deal of time and effort in order to retrieve the person he despises most in the world.
-Or-
Blackbeard's post-breakup leadership style leaves much to be desired. As much as Izzy hates to admit it, Stede Bonnet might be the only one who can get through to him at this point. So he sets off on a quest to find him.
Oh and this bit of HILARIOUS fan art:

Taika Waititi being delightful:

SO TRUE OF HIM.

Brave (and hopeful) Pride story via Kerk:
Milicz makes history as smallest town in Poland to host Pride parade
With only 11,000 inhabitants, Milicz made history by becoming the smallest town in Poland where a Pride march was held.
The amazing story about Magic Earring Ken.
The gay Ken doll that is still the best selling Barbie product of all time
And then a bunch of tweets (threads, videos etc), putting them under a cut to save your flist. <3

OK one outside the cut, because it's so fascinating. From the info gleaned from the articles, I think the brothers were probably intersex, but assigned female at birth.
In 1934-1936, trans brothers Mark and David Ferrow of Yarmouth, UK both transitioned at age 13 with full parental support. Mark medically transitioned first in 1939 at 17 and his brother soon followed. "Though we have been girls, we have both felt men at heart," Mark added. pic.twitter.com/3JwFAd7wLU

Did see something about Louisa May Alcott that was interesting; not sure it's not wishful thinking and placing a modern perspective on comments from a previous century, but interesting.
Bit like mistranslations of the bible; lot of which was first written in ancient Greek. In that time, and going back well before Alexander they had no words for concepts like homosexuality, and it wasn't just the Spartans who though of sex between men as a nornal part of life, and cross-gender as merely necessary.
Still interesting.

Eh, not my tweet, can't edit it! *g*

A certain amount of modern terminology being applied, that's for sure, but she definitely seems to have been something other than straight & cis. So definitely interesting!

It's difficult to grasp different/old cultures, because it was so understood that they didn't talk about it...

Never read any of their books, so I don't have that canvas to place my thoughts on, but that sentence; especially that first part, do make statements about gender identity much more solid.
As to sexual identity I'd lean more towards straight but, after all this time, anything we may say, or think, cannot but be based on our own experiential prejudices.
To take the example of Willow on Buffy... to me it's pretty clear she is Bi, but she identifies as Gay. In a fictional context it's ok to say she's Bi but, if she was a real person, my thoughts would be irrelevant; also more than a little disrespectful if I voiced them to her, or behind her back.
In my head canon Tara; had she survived and got Willow to listen would have helped her become comfortable and lose what maybe a fear of losing Tara if she didn't say she was "Gay now" ~ to me that's the writers and the culture seeing only a binary. Willow is actually reacting as a lot of real people would; brought up to believe in a binary world view and not seeing anything other than that until experience, or someone in her life challenges that.
Treating, in this context, Louisa May Alcott as a fictional entity; based on what I thought I knew, and reading what I am now reading, they seem to be Trans and Straight.
In reality, we are guessing, based on our own modern perceptions; that statement makes the saying things like 'she's Trans', or 'Bi', or 'Queer' more solid for sure, but we're only suggesting based on what appears to be new, or uninvestigated, evidence.
But it would have been fascinating to have read their books, then seen this new speculation and tested how my perceptions of those stories changed.

Re animals, then there is a seagull that meets a sad fate, and... *thinks* There is a point when (minor spoiler) the crew strap knives to turtles and try to make them fight, but otherwise I am drawing a blank. I could be forgetting something, but I can't think of anything else.

but I'm delighted to discover (very late, but better late than never!) that you're an OFMD fan! It doesn't surprise me though, as I know you have a great taste in shows.
Why thank you! Likewise! <3
