Lockdown Update Day 112
First up... Cronk! Came across this thread a few weeks ago, and it was just delightful:
And now there's been a development:
The Guardian:
'Cronk rules everything around me': long-lost beverage resurrected after 120 years
Odd ads for Dr Cronk’s Compound Sarsaparilla Beer, once wildly popular, went viral on Twitter. Now a Canadian brewer is bringing it back
~~
In corona news:
Coronavirus: Brazil's President Bolsonaro tests positive
Sweden Has Become the World’s Cautionary Tale
Its decision to carry on in the face of the pandemic has yielded a surge of deaths without sparing its economy from damage — a red flag as the United States and Britain move to lift lockdowns.
(Personal note: I think we're our own red flag.)
~~
And it's 15 years since the London bombings. I'm not sure how to feel. 15 years is a long time, but I still remember it vividly; worrying about LJ friends that I knew lived in London, messages flying back and forth if anyone had heard from so-and-so... And having lived in London for 3 years, using those tube stations on a regular basis, it made it all feel much more immediate.

Today's art is the 7 July Memorial:

ETA: Completely managed to forget that this icon is a product of that attack...
In 1883, a drink called "Cronk" started advertising in the Calgary Herald. See if you can spot their ads. pic.twitter.com/yg3dMRDkY6

I'm reminded of Miriam Margoyles (BLESS HER FOREVER) who said how she hoped that it's kill Boris Johnson. And then thought that this was probably not a good thing to hope for, so she changed her mind and hoped that he's not just get better physically, but better as a person.
Alas, that did not come true. :(

I want people to see the error of their ways and change. Which is pretty far-fetched for notorious right-wing leaders, I know...

Those Cronk ads are a-ma-zing.

IKR? 9/11 feels long ago? But this...
I remember quite a few people messaging me asking if I was okay because they weren't too familiar with UK geography. I had a couple of friends who lived in London but fortunately they were both ok.
Same here. And LJ posts trying to track all know LJers, to consolidate all information.
Those Cronk ads are a-ma-zing.
That is grrrreat advertising. I want to try it!

I'm glad Bolsonaro got it. I hope he feels terrible. I hope anyone - please let 45 be next - who snubs their nose at this virus get hit with a big dose of karma.

If only.

I didn't remember the London bombings event, it must have been terrible! I feel for the families of the victims. The memorial sculpture is lovely, very essential and solemn.

Isn't it just? I would love to see it sometime.

I remember the day well - especially the LJ people worrying, and making sure everyone who might have been in London was ok. And then some of them being over-sympathetic ("Oh you poor thing I am so sorry for your terrible loss and know you must be cowering indoors shaking with hysterical fear right now..." sort of thing).
And the comments from Londoners - I particularly remember the old man saying "Lot of amateurs! We've survived being bombed by professionals like the Luftwaffe and the IRA - there's no way THIS lot are going to terrorise us Londoners!" And the person who also called them a bunch of amateurs because "Who in their right mind would bomb a bus right outside the Royal College of Surgeons?' (I think it was the surgeons anyway.)
This icon was made by someone on the day.

*nods*
This icon was made by someone on the day.
As was this one! The comment I specifically remember was the guy who went 'I've been blown up by a better class of terrorist than this'.
