Today we went to see [the new] West Side Story, which was very good. (Sorry, no deep thoughts.)

I'm leery of NYC. It's possible it will be empty. I'm tempted to try but, it's really just Russian Roulett. The cases are allegedly dropping though, and to get into a theater in the city - you have to show proof of vaccination right now.

While I 100% support giant non-violent protests in not-pandemic times,

I can see a strong public health case for limiting large public protests in pandemic times.

If I was asked "should the chief health officer have the power to ban large in-person protests until hospitals stop melting down at the seams from new COVID cases?", I'd say/vote yes.

But I gather this bill was not anything along the lines of "if X new cases a day of COVID, no public protests; if Y new cases a day of COVID, public protests are fine" ?

Good news indeed...ye gods - they put us in bad situations and then want to tell us we can't raise hell about it. Glad they voted no on the clamp down!

I enjoyed the new West Side Story too. Spielberg did a great job of setting the scene.

I think the most bizarre aspect of all the party stuff is that Mr B thought it was perfectly normal to have wine at a meeting. How often do they do that when they are deciding important stuff !!!! *boggles*

Honestly - you couldn't make it up - 'Well yes, I am the Prime Minister and it was my government who introduced and passed all the laws relating to the pandemic - but I didn't actually know that they forbade posh people having work parties... Just, you know, plebs parting in parks, and holding pleb funerals and weddings, and so on.'
