Update from the house of Plague (Day Fnarg Year 3) 5th of January

Today was the dullest day for me (and it's SO COLD, I don't like it), but have been looking at the news from Kazakhstan...

Al Jazeera (4 Jan): Protests erupt in Kazakhstan after fuel price rise

BBC (5 Jan): Kazakhstan unrest: Staff flee as protesters enter airport

It's rather unsettling to follow a new interest*, and then everything blows up. :( Not that I'm surprised, it's basically a dictatorship and has been throughout the 30 years of independence. I hope things get resolved soon (and for the better, rather than a big crackdown).

Also, it's fun living in a country that basically wants to outlaw protests (like... Kazakhstan!), yay let's align with right-wing dictatorships.

*The interest in question obvs being Dimash, who has had his instagram suspended due to the 'events' - I was going to link to a source, but now that has disappeared also! *hands* ETA: The first I knew of any of it was a post on Dimash's Instagram, where he was upset and worried for his people (he's still in China) and urging everyone to come together to find a resolution because the people had legitimate grievances (or something like that). I'd add that the country & the culture are v interesting in their own right and I am enjoying discovering more, since it's basically impossible to follow Dimash & not get invested in the country. The two are inseparable.

In news nearer to home, which are also not great (read the whole thread):

Anyway, there are good news:

Edward Colston statue: Four cleared of criminal damage

And here is a lovely photo of a squirrel. :)
