Today would have been Day 166 (of Year 2)
A vague attempt at catching up...
I have no idea what to say about the general state of the world. Read this article about Afghanistan which was interesting, but probably won't have a happy ending. :(
Afghanistan: The 'undefeated' Panjshir Valley - an hour from Kabul

I was very sad to hear of Sean Lock's passing, and then came across this. <3
Comedian Sean Lock last video:

In pandemic news, then it's sort of faded into the background? This video is hilarious & on point:
People in 1920 when the pandemic was over:

Oh and have a petition, why not (I might have shared it before):
Keep our NHS out of US Trade deals
~~~
And finally and genuinely interesting article that I can't really describe:
Do Hippos Count as Dragons: An Examination of Identity and Taxonomy
~~~
In RL news, then today we were at the in-laws for 'regular' Sunday dinner for the first time since March 2020. Which was somehow both very normal and very weird.
ETA: Stay safe America... :(

We all literally looked around and were like 'Wow, we haven't done this since March 2020... This is strange.' But then all adults have been double-jabbed and both our family and Darcy's older brother & family (who were there) have HAD the virus, so we were basically as safe as we could be.
As in- we have not been meeting up indoors due to the in-laws being in their 70s and both being cancer survivors.
But here's to maybe possibly kinda getting back to normal. Ish. Masks are still good, I think I'll wear mine forever, I've not had a cold in forever.

100% agree! Fewer colds, flus, and other communicable diseases will definitely have me wearing masks for a good long while to come. :D

All the best to your friend - am glad they are safe, and hope their property isn't too damaged.
Looks like the damage and deaths could have been much worse though.
That is good news - have been out all and not looked at the news.

Glad to hear you were able to have Sunday lunch with the in-laws again, though!

It's such a mess and there doesn't seem to be any sort of good solution. :(
Glad to hear you were able to have Sunday lunch with the in-laws again, though!
It was like The Before Times! Also both we and Simon's older brother's family (who were there also) have had covid (and everyone eligible has been double-jabbed) so we were as safe as could be.

It really is! As well as, say, going out and a mask simply being one of the things you have to remember to bring...
My Eldest son was taking about coming to stay for Christmas today and it felt so odd to plan something!
I know the feeling. But at least it's a good thing - hope he can come and you can have a lovely Christmas. <3
