Companions from the past will probably need a cheat sheet for modern terminology. I think that's the phrase? Yes, that's the one. But then every companion has to learn all the Doctor Who terminology anyway. :)

We still don't know what Jack's real name is. Very much agree with this. Although all kinds of things can age something, and often not what people expect.
Overall, each modern companion had some skillset to offer, some more than others. We never saw Rose use her gymnastics skills. Instead she reminded us of being nonplussed about working in as shop. Well her gymnastic skills were only brought up once, and it wasn't really something she was still working on. Her skills were Being Human and Being A Friend.
CLARA: I'm fine. I take Year Seven for after school Tae Kwon Do. LOL. Zero recollection of this line. Also... yes probably asking too much, unless the actor has that skill. Hm. That would be neat. And hey, they got Eleven to play football, which was Matt Smith's actual skill! There you go. :)
Anyway, I've only seen a few scenes from The Seventh Doctor era. So don't really know Mels(Melanie), well. Her name should have been mentioned by the Eleventh Doctor. That was a wasted opportunity. Probably too obscure to be added, but yeah, would have been fun. I love Seven, he's like Eleven, very much a trickster with plans-inside-plans. If you get a chance to watch, do!
