Year 2 of Lockdown, Day 70
It's been a year since George Floyd. I wish I could write or share something poignant, but I don't know what. Looking back to last year, I didn't post anything until the 30th. This was my post then. It feels we have come a long way since, and yet not enough has changed. Certainly not in this country. *waves tiredly towards PM's racism* Not to mention Sasha Johnson: Black Lives Matter activist shot by group of men

For something completely different, here is a truly wonderful video about what happened when wolves were released in Yellowstone National Park in 1995. Nature is amazing.

And finally more of the greatest singer in the world: Daily Dimash 2: Opera 2
Here is Dimash's 2nd performance on The Singer from Dimash. I love his showmanship (like, he really knows how to engage with the audience) and how playful he is. As well as the singing of course! But it’s the whole performance that makes it so captivating. Now there are a lot of versions of this performance on youtube, but this one has subtitles — which is not all that important for the lyrics, but more the general comments. Not to mention the ending! Because his father shows up and surprises him and honestly it’s just ♥ ♥ ♥ His FACE. Trust me, this is the wholesome content you need today. (Bear in mind he’s only 22, was brought up in a very close-knit family and it’s the first time he’s away from home for a lengthy period of time — plus he’s in a foreign country where he doesn’t speak the language.)
And since I just came across this video a couple of days ago, you get MORE wholesome Kudaibergen family content. The whole family is musical — Dimash’s mother is a professional opera singer and his father is a singer and poet (and used to have a high level position at the the Aktobe Department of Culture). Here they are performing as a family and you can easily tell how he inherited his talent from his parents. Plus it's a gorgeous song and just such a beautiful performance. Also his grandparents are on the front row (you'll see why this information is important when you watch).
For the first time in my life I am regretting not studying Russian when I had the chance… So much content is in Russian.

I still have no idea what to say...I was just...frozen when it happened. And tired for our brothers and sisters across the world and right here at home - and the hell they go through every day right under our noses...and I...I didn't KNOW. It is just terrible. What can one say to this? Except to push for change to happen?
*HUGS*

It's ridiculously wholesome, but also... this is the most wonderful example of a talent being nurtured and trained in a good way, by people who understand it. The grandparents are also musical, so it's something that runs in the family. <3

Yeah, and it's not something I feel particularly qualified to talk about. I just hope things change faster.

(I haven't been posting or commenting very much, and I wanted to take the time to tell you that I've loved your daily posts, even if I haven't commented on them.)

I know what you mean! I talk about Dimash 'as a singer' but he plays lots of instruments so...
Thank you for introducing me to this young man!
Totally my pleasure. I keep discovering more myself, so these posts are partly a way to organise it all for myself. :)

<3 Thank you! I am terrible at commenting myself, so I know the feeling...
