UK Parliament: Gaza ceasefire vote
It says 'Labour amendment for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire passes'. Which I think is good? (ETA: Apparently not. :( I despair at the country in which I live.) Trying to read back through the live updates it seems to have been very tumultuous and messy with many many arguments...
The thing I am stuck on is this: The debate followed PMQs, during which PM Rishi Sunak said calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, without a plan for a permanent solution, was "not in anyone's interest". WTF? It's in the interest of the people being bombed! I can't.

Anas Matar (see previous post) shares videos of his little nephew Adam on Instagram. In this video, posted January 12, Adam takes his first steps. His dad (Anas' brother) had the best reaction 🥹

Sam: How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass.
A new day will come.
And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t.
Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
