elisi: Edwin and Charles (Doctor/River kiss by roselafleur)
I think your new trailer broke my brain. This is not good, because I need my brain, and constantly feeling like this isn't helping me be focused and productive:

(Incidentally I think this might be THE BEST GIF EVER!)

Was going to talk about this yesterday, but LJ was down and then the trailer happened. Still, here I am...

First of all, then [livejournal.com profile] solitary_summer wrote an absolutely amazing essay, that every Torchwood fan ought to read:

The World Is Always Ending: Time in Torchwood's Jack/Ianto Arc

Yes it's Jack/Ianto centric (and long!), but don't let that put you off, because she manages to delve into all the different layers of time that the show deals with, especially when it comes to Jack. I am in absolute awe.

Now the meta made me recall a fic I'd once read, about future!mature!Jack and the Doctor, so I went looking for it. And when I found it, it left me absolutely speechless. It's a ficlet, and is actually the coda to a very, very, very long timey-wimey Jack/Ianto fic, but that's not really important. All you need to know is that future!Jack has just said goodbye to Ianto for the last and final time and goes to visit his grave - and finds the Doctor waiting for him. Now all the stuff with Jack was just as lovely as I remembered (I am very fond of Old And Mature Jack), but what shocked me was the Doctor. When the fic was written Matt had only just been announced (it would be a good few months before his costume was revealed, even), and we knew nothing about him, or what his Doctor would be like. And yet this fic gets him so spot-on (right down to his mannerisms) that I am still kinda in shock:
