elisi: Edwin holding a tiny snowman (Jack - Dimples)
Ages ago, in spring sometime, my younger s-i-l B bought tickets to a Michael Bublé concert, as a birthday present for my older s-i-l, H. She got four tickets, because she thought it'd be a fun girls night out, and I happily said yes because hey - girls night out! (No children or husband! That happens like... never!) I wasn't particularly bothered about Mr Bublé (although 'Feeling Good' is one of my alltime favourite songs), and did think that £50 a ticket was RIDICULOUS, but hey - good company and fun would surely be had.

Essay: The Ecstasy of Grief. Absolutely brilliant examination of Jenny Calendar by [livejournal.com profile] eleusis_walks.

And a better link to Vogue, [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett's fabulous '300' vid. Trust me, you do not need to have seen the film to appreciate the vid!

Summary: Bite me, Frank Miller. Or, to borrow someone else's description, because it's spot-on: In Vogue, Luminosity punctures the violence of 300 by defiantly aestheticizing both the battlefield and the men on it. She conflates the battlefield and the dance floor, subjecting the men to a female and queer gaze and setting Madonna up as this world's reigning pagan goddess. An instant classic that went straight into vidding canon.
