People always complain about Buffy attacking Spike (even if she of course was lashing out at herself). But... he *let* her - he was perfectly capable of defending himself, but he didn't. To quote 'Time Bomb':
ILLYRIA: You ask me to allow you to murder me.
SPIKE: It's not murder if you say yes.
And Buffy never intended to kill (and didn't come close - she mostly hit his face. Vampires are after all pretty indestructible). She's obviously devastated once she sees what she's done and I never needed her to beg Spike's forgiveness. As she says to Tara: "Please don't forgive me!"
