elisi: Edwin holding a tiny snowman (Manny - Black Books by iconzicons)
To all those of you in America: It's Black Books! OK, so it's not released until January 10th, but you should order it NOW! I swear you will never regret it!

'Black Books' is one of the BEST EVER English sitcoms - I still remember watching the pilot and loving every little bit to pieces. And since I'm in a hurry, I'll just copy a review off amazon that summerises the show rather well:
Black Books is a second-hand bookshop in London run by an Irishman named Bernard Black. He is probably the planet's worst-suited person to run such an establishment: he makes no effort to sell, closes at strange hours on a whim, is in a perpetual alcoholic stupor, abhors his customers (sometimes physically abusing them) and is often comatose at his desk. Help comes in the lumpy shape of Manny Bianco, a hairy, bumbling individual who (almost by osmosis) becomes Bernard's assistant. Manny is not exactly great at the job either but he is a million times better than Bernard. Next door is Fran, an anxious, frustrated woman who runs a sort of new-age shop selling the most unlikely bits of arty junk. Fran is friends with Bernard and, through him, with Manny; together the trio become embroiled in escapades that are sometimes extreme or violent or fantastically ludicrous, and always bizarre.

For my UK friends: DVDs available here! I found my icon in this post. There be many more... :)

elisi: Edwin holding a tiny snowman (Darla by glenien)
Caught 'Halloween' this morning on Sky One. It is such an enjoyable episode, but by *far* the best bit was Giles! The laugh-out-loud bit when Willow walks through the wall and then the OMG!!eleventyone!!!! when he confronts Ethan and casually beats him up... *happy, happy sigh*

And I think I've worked out part of why I like the later seasons best. Firstly, most of the characters are still SO YOUNG and not actually all that interesting yet - I like my heroes to have many layers and more history. And preferably a dark side too! Also the whole High School set-up is so *very* familiar from a million and one movies and tv shows. Yes there are vampires and demons etc, but it's just too, um, peppy. I think. Not sure what the word is that I'm looking for.

But Oz is adorable! I want one. :)

This bit at the end made me think:
Angel: They [the women when he was young] were just incredibly dull. Simpering morons, the lot of
them. I always wished I could meet someone... exciting. (looks her in
the eyes) Interesting.
Buffy: Really? Interesting how?
Angel: You know how.

Well - he met Darla...

OK I *have* to go now (I want to decorate the house tomorrow, which means tidying it tonight...), but this was just too funny:

Evil Lethal Imp from the Sunless Isle

Because seriously, it rains 365 days a year in the Faroes and now I live in England! ;)
