Good Omens: The Tumblr round-up
If you are wondering what is contained within my head under ‘Good Omens’: it's not just the show, or the book, or the fan fiction or the vids or even the meta. It’s… this. This enormous jumble of joy and love and creativity and queerness and beautiful drawings and acute observations and DT and MS being adorable and Neil Gaiman stepping in to confirm fan theories and gif sets and ficlets and long threads on Roman fashion and… *hands* THIS.
So, here is my third big Good Omens round-up post (all here in my memories), this one with Tumblr links!! And I know it looks like I read all of Tumblr, but honestly this is just scratching the surface. However, I a) wanted to be able to find stuff and b) figured it’d be useful for people who weren’t around during the first rush and/or who are curious what’s out there, but don’t feel like trawling through Tumblr themselves.
I have done my best to divide it up by area (it all started out as one big jumble, this took a lot of organising!), hope it makes sense to you. :)
A few things outside the cut to set the mood. First one from the very beginning:

To summarise:
Current status: Still ruined over Good Omens. Emotionally compromised and elated all at the same time. Still living in over six thousand years of love and the ever present, ever changing nature of humanity. The resilience and dignity and love and pain and mess and happenstance of us and the universe which is in is reflected.

The format is very simple - a brief description (sometimes my own, sometimes the poster’s, sometimes including my verdict. Basically my own key words/summary so I can remember what it is. So, here is my third big Good Omens round-up post (all here in my memories), this one with Tumblr links!! And I know it looks like I read all of Tumblr, but honestly this is just scratching the surface. However, I a) wanted to be able to find stuff and b) figured it’d be useful for people who weren’t around during the first rush and/or who are curious what’s out there, but don’t feel like trawling through Tumblr themselves.
I have done my best to divide it up by area (it all started out as one big jumble, this took a lot of organising!), hope it makes sense to you. :)
A few things outside the cut to set the mood. First one from the very beginning:

To summarise:
Current status: Still ruined over Good Omens. Emotionally compromised and elated all at the same time. Still living in over six thousand years of love and the ever present, ever changing nature of humanity. The resilience and dignity and love and pain and mess and happenstance of us and the universe which is in is reflected.

... That's a good question. I've been collecting links for a while shall we say. And simply had a document with a million copies of the 'Description/URL' all coded up, so all I had to to was throw in a link & some notes.
Separating it all out (because it was literally a huge jumble) was not as difficult as I thought it'd be.

This was my description of it to Promethia when I first read it:
I was honestly not sure what on earth it was doing at first. It seemed the standard sort of Getting Together And Doing Lots of Sex (reminded me a bit of 'It's Not The End Of The World, Dear', because there is a lot of sex, for most of it), but the focus is different, as is the tone. (This is not crack.) A LOT OF SEX, OK? But it chronicles how they move forward, very much Relationship Development Through Sex.
And then the end of the first story just went in a really unexpected direction ('Oh, these are the kinds of conversations they will be having?'), and the second story brought in Warlock, and I am just deeply curious where it will go next and want to spend more time with the characters.
In short, I am... charmed.

I'm very fascinated by the kinds of GO stories that people seem to enjoy telling (and reading) over and over again in very subtly different variations - and also in the way those stories have evolved over the last year. Immediately post-show, I was mostly interested in reading 'missing scene' fics, and a bajillionty takes on 'the bus ride home' and 'that night at Crowley's' and 'the first day/week of the rest of their lives'. Then that evolved into looking for crack!fic and comedy, and small soft slice-of-life type things (lots of Kedreeva's wing-centric fic), but also more angst-ridden h/c fic, and then I went for long, 'pining-through-the-ages' and 'moving-to-the-South-Downs' type things...and then onto AUs. Like, if 'slow show' had somehow been written in the first month or so after the show aired, I don't think I would have been interested?? I wonder how other peoples' interest has evolved.

This. I think because... fandom evolved? And kept discovering new things? At first it was all fill-in-the-blanks, but then they heard about the South Down cottage, and people 'invented' wing fic, and then there was Crowley-and-the-plants (!!) and Aziraphale linking to be tied up (all the Bastille fic!) and touch (and all the links to the history of queer ppl) and it all happened organically, I think? Here is a new thing, delve in, then move on to the next part. Also things like poetry? I'm not even sure when that appeared, but it was very early on, and now it's just A THING. God I love this show.
When it comes to writing then obviously I have done the Big Romantic Religious fic, and am now... doing madcap crossover AU (WITH LAYERS AND META), but still trying my damnedest to stick with the tone of the show. (Which is difficult.) And I couldn't have done that just after it first aired, because I didn't have all this knowledge *waves towards post* tucked away. I am deliberately hitting a lot of fic clichés for example. :)
ETA: OK, have now read Slow Show 5 times. I had stopped on Chapter 9, but since I still had the page open on my phone I just delved back in. Mmmmm, iloveitsomuch. <3

Actually, I think I particularly appreciate it because I am the sort of person who does this too. Like making a timeline of roleplay threads in one of my previous games to work out how the hell they all fitted together. :-D
