Update from The House of Plague, Day 22

It's strange. No one said things would be so quiet [during a pandemic/dystopia]. Today has been another beautiful and sunny day, and I went for a morning walk next to the river and listened to Classical music as I worked from home and hung out lots of washing and had lunch in the garden, in the sun, with a book. And the 18 year old practised juggling skills and is now making fudge, the 21 y.o. did some gardening and the 14 y.o. probably watched some anime, but mostly it's just quiet.

(ETA: This partly brought to you by Yet another novel I will no longer write: I was planning a pandemic zombie disaster novel in which people behaved like human beings, rather than psychotic, heavily armed doomsday preppers.)

Some nice things:

The Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson shows her characters social distancing

Tumblr composed a Corona virus children's nursery rhyme

Quarantine, day 14. Me and my boyfriend spent the whole day setting up an art gallery for our gerbil. (There is a photo!)

The Backstreet Boys performing I Want It That Way together from each of their homes

101 year old man, burn during the Spanish Flu, has beaten covid-19 in Italy

It's a weirdly still and quiet disaster. I've taken up sewing. (Masks.)

That's cute with the Backstreet Boys!

And I really like the art gallery for the gerbil!

Yeah, I'm not great at sewing, but they were pretty basic, so I did one.

I made my friend some tiny art for her dolls! That was fun!

*sigh* The idea of having a competent leader who is also a decent person.

What an amazing life that man has had. I suspect all centuries had dramatic changes but it's just harder for us to imagine what it was like.

We had a similar thing happen here... A little girl posted a video on YouTube asking the premier of Quebec whether the Tooth Fairy could work during the lockdown. The premier declared the Tooth Fairy an essential service and said she could still bring money to children everywhere. (Also she’s immune to coronavirus. Because she’s a fairy.)

It is so weirdly quiet isn't it. Actually, our neighbours are eating pizza in their garden so it isn't particularly quiet at the moment but generally it is very calm, peaceful and weird. I hate not being able to go out but I love hearing the birds.

It really has gotten quiet, except for the cars driving on the streets and I can still hear the train pass by.

Loved the Backstreet Boys, as long as they keep bringing those sweet sweet harmonies, they are always welcome (and I LOVED Kevin's boys playing along with him, especially the younger one with the patented Boy Band Fist).

This was my reaction to the 101 year-old guy beating CV19 (all my CV19 posts are tagged '2020 pandemic')

I love how quiet it is, honestly. Shows how much noise vehicles make.

S2C was wondering why he is sleeping so late - I pointed out that the peace and quiet might have something to do with it...

Jacinda Ardern is a good person.

I might suggest that D-d et al set up an art gallery for Tehi Tegi (cat named, quite rightly, after a local legendary witch!).

That response from the PM is absolutely precious. How wonderful.

Such a sweet response from her.

Amazing story about that 101 surviving this virus.
